So I was just reading that when Bernie Torme left Ian Gillan's band to replace Randy, he was replaced in Gillan by Janick Gers. Gers was left without a band when Gillan joined Black Sabbath and muddled about until Bruce Dickinson tapped him to play on his first solo record and then he replaced Adrian Smith in Iron Maiden.

Kind of worked out for him, wouldn't ya say

Also back in the day when Maiden was looking to replace Dennis Stratton, they wanted Adrian Smith, but their second choice was Phil Collen who went on to replace Pete Willis in Def Leppard.

Back further in the day, they wanted Adrian Smith in the band before they Hired Dennis Stratton. Stratton went on to play in Paul Dianno's Post-Maiden band, also Clive Burr... there's some incestuous behavior going on with the NWOBHM bands
