Fuel for the fire?

I hear you dude. It's sad to see this board getting slower.
The main reason I think why this forum is getting slower is because there is not much more happening regarding Randy's legacy. Of course there is also facebook where people can get pics and information that is just 'one click' away from their daily things they do on the web. Maybe because of that people don't feel the urge that much to go to a separate message board to register/login etc.? But wait till there is some big news about something and this board comes alive real quick, no doubt about that. I think this board is still the best place for good discussions though, even better than facebook. But there must be something to discuss then. So I think unfortunately as it is now this board will getting slower unless there is new fuel for the fire. And not only this board, all public sources (including facebook) will slow down as time passes by. Because the story about Randy Rhoads is pretty much written.
Though it's good to ask ourselves if/how we can slow down the slowing down here?

Facebook has absolutely killed message boards. Not just guitarists either.... all forums have taken a huge body blow. This one has suffered in particular, partly due to the inactivity of the Rhoads name. How can you keep expecting people to turn up and post about Randy when there's nothing to say? When the controversy was going on with Margolis, this place was vibrant, but how can people keep coming when there's nothing to say :( ? It's a real shame and it hurts and saddens me.

What is more concerning, is I feel that we're missing out on the next generation of youngsters. Whereas 10 years ago, it was me signing up to RandyRhoads.tk as a 16 year old inspired guitarist, now there are no youngsters picking up the baton and continuing that chain.

I think Facebook and other social media outlets make it much easier to be exposed to RR. Just skimming through Facebook I've seen so many shots of Randy that I had never seen before. Social media also allows guys like Zakk Wylde to showcase Randy to thousands of followers with a single click. RR will get much more exposure via social media than any forum.

This forum will be slow regardless of social media being effective. It's been said many times but there's only so much you can talk about with RR. Unless there's a subject matter that hasn't been exposed then well you can't go too far with only a couple of years in the spotlight, if that. I love this forum and thoroughly enjoy the conversations when they arise. It is what it is but it doesn't need to be a sad thing.

I think it's just this sight that's taken a nose dive, not all message boards. Even in its heyday these boards were neve busy either here or at Tk. Other places boards i visit daily still have hundreds or thousands of post everyday.

Actually,I pop in all the time. I've been working on some Randy related stuff. This one in particular. I never liked the logo's on the original (and especially the flubbed backward pic of his guitars). I do not take credit to the back photo's other than the ajusted layout, the Cow Palace shot (also not mine) and placement of everything else. Notice it hovers over a SOTD border.
I've been sadly without phone, cable and internet for almost 4 months. Glad to be back. :)

Yeah i have noticed that this forum does have regular visitors you post up a new photo and it has many hits over night. Just the guys who visit are browsers and not wanting to take part in any old topics or to pick up the call to be involved. I remember when i first came here i wasn't on FB and that place is the focus for most media issues on everything from baking a cake to banging a drum. It's all happening over there, but i do keep checking this place out.. All i can say is let the silent ones make more of an impact here please. Or it will go the same way as RR.TK i'd hate to see this place shut down because of lack of interest and posts...so if your new here please say hello and join in the posts and if your bored have a look through the 1000's of old threads i'm sure you'll see a few you'd like to drag out of the archives.. Long Live Ultimaterhoads ;-)

I absolutely LOATHE Facebook with a passion, always have, always will. I always thought Myspace was a much, much better platform and style.

I think there's more younger people in other countries that like melodic rock guitar these days than there are here in the states. There's several bands outside the US that are young, and they have the same look and sounds of the 80s bands we all love.

I think if Frank releases his student tapes there will be a ton of things to discuss and learn here, I am hoping for that... after all he said before he was only holding out for respect of the wishes of Delores, well, she's no longer here, so now why not share the lesson tapes, the world deserves to hear those.

Other ways to keep this board alive and semi-Randy related, would be if someone could somehow get Zakk Wylde, Brad Gillis, and Jake E Lee to come here and participate some. It'd be cool to have a way of asking them questions about various things.

I think the main things that drove people away was all the disappointment of the documentary not being released.

However, there was several good Randy and Quiet Riot books released, as well as the Randy footage Ozzy put out and the QR dvds live & documentary, and I was surprised how that didn't spark as much discussion than it did back when it came out because I thought those were some amazing items.

I think some really amazing RR stuff will be coming out soon now that we had the changing of the guard.

Those lesson tapes that Frank has are my holy grail though, because those would be very educational and insightful.
