Did Randy Ever Get The Funk Out?

I have never heard evidence of RR playing funk inspired guitar.
If it is out there, I have missed it.
The reason this is of interest to me is that I am pretty sure, with his fingerboard dexterity and advanced picking and strumming skills, he would have been a monster.
He grew up in the 70's = disco/funk/r&b was huge.
Maybe he wasn't a fan.

Anyone?
cheers

I'm sure he could have nailed it but I think he was into structure and technique so normally that doesn't lend itself to going loose

I feel that if we could listen to :| the full 20 min jam session from bobs tapes there will be little pices of funk in Randy's playing

One in a Million by Quiet Riot is about as close as Randy got to that style I believe.

It's a no brainer question it's like saying why didn't Randy get involved with the new wave punk scene with it being around in the 70's. He was into playing classical and had influences like Leslie West Michael Schenker Mick Ronson Ritchie Blackmore.

Not really a 'no brainer' Idol.
I inquired as to if anyone had heard Randy play funk.

Punk isn't a high craft form of music. Funk, on the other hand, requires a little dexterity and musical insight to be played well.

Well if it wasn't high craft i'd like a cut of the earnings from all the Sex Pistols and The Ramones albums....Far more popular then funk bolloxs.

High craft and high earnings are not the same thing.

Funk, R&B and disco outsold new wave and punk in North America by about 1000 to 1 in the 70s in North America. Maybe more.
Saturday Night Fever itself outsold the entire punk thing.

Punks were not supposed to be 'successful', or 'good players'. Like the Dada movement. Failure was success. Irony? Alas the Great Rock N Roll Swindle.

By the way, I love the Damned and the Pistols. I also love funk.

Blackmore and Ronson showed flashes of funkiness in their playing. The Quiet Riot sample that Paul posted is a disco track with a few power chords over top.
So there certainly was an awareness of disco and it's popularity.

Early Crazy Train demoes also sport a disco drumbeat and a R&B influenced bassline so...
Maybe I just answered my own question.

I think that you can hear a bit of funk creeping in in the 30 second sample of that jam. Very nice it is too. :)
