Ive just realised what documentary theme tune Randy was talking about when he said he got the idea for Diary of a Madman from watching a Holocaust Documentary in the uk. The most famous Documentary in the uk on World war 2 originally made in 70s and still shown today is "World at War" as we know Randy first came to the uk in 1979.

And i remember my father used to watch this same doc when i was a kid in the late 70s on the bbc

I remember Randy`s words when he said he was watching a Holocaust documentary in the uk one night and noticed the theme tune had an odd motif running through it,the other important thing to remember is that there were only 3 channels in 1979 on tv bbc1 bbc 2 and itv and this documentary was a big bbc production so im absolutely sure it was this theme tune.

First here is the time Signature for Diary of a Madman :

Intro in 4/4, there's a theme in 9/8 and 8/8, ending in 6/8. The verse is in 7/4. the chorus in 6/8.

So i would conclude that the Time Signature inspiration for Diary was taken from here ,which is kind of like 7/4 time and if you can hear/imagine the Diary Verse part over it you can clearly hear what Randy meant and where this inspiration came from!

The intro was as he said himself a rip off of " Carmina Burana" which Bob originally suggested to use as the live show opening tune.

The verses taken from Etude 6 -Bob talks about this in his book.

Interesting ?

"If I knew then what I know now, I'd have made five albums with them" Ozzy Osbourne

It's regret, i think that really is the worst kind of pain, yeah guilt is bad, and sadness is bad, but regret is the sickly combination of both.
