I'm just curious.
What is different with the MXR Dist+ one Randy used
and the ones sold today ?

I'll say the obvious ones since I don't know much about them, but this is what I know:
Randy's one was actually made my MXR, not Dunlop and also didn't have an LED or a power supply input originally either, but I recon he added them on.
I'm not sure whether he used the Script or Block logo Distortion +.

From what I heard:
the original distortion+ had germanium diodes instead of the cheaper more common silicon ones that are used in the new "reissue" pedals. The germanium diodes are supposed to sound a lot warmer.
Someone who can probably tell you more about this is Deansolo.
*Some companies can mod the distortion+ to sound like the original. (

I have one distortion+ reissue here but I never liked it, maybe I gonna try that mod just out of curiosity. However I'm quit happy with the Zakk overdrive so I'm not in a hurry. Will let you know when I tried.

yup. he set me up with a westminster lp copy too. it is a double cutaway with soapbar type pickups. oh yeah, a fender champ also. he said a good sound was important to learning.
