hi Guys

Does someone of you know a bootleg where the keyboard is loud in the mix?? I want to learn the keyboard that are played live ???


i remember hearing one where the keyboard was loud but cant retreive it

I dont listen to bootlegs much, but Ozzy with Jake E Lee at the US Festival 1983 has pretty loud keyboards (on Crazy Train)

Any of the 1982 shows seem to be heavy on keys

Seems to me that the Speak of the Devil DVD was saturated with keys. They tended to follow the rhythm guitar parts. Here are two full shows to check out:

I remember 2 bootlegs that were really strong on keys. They were both sound board recordings from 1982. 1-22-1982 and 2-8-1982 in Detroit.

Danny, what's your opinion of the keys? I read that Randy liked 'em, I hate 'em.

Kalamazoo or Minneapolis. One of those two. It's almost overbearing, especially during Crazy Train.

Obviously the keyboards were a product of the times. Most 80's bands had a keyboard player, and some of the music was truly over the top. I always thought that Ozzy's music with keyboards, minus "Mr. Crowley", was better suited with as little keyboard as possible.

Listening to keyboard-heavy 80's songs nowadays, it sounds very dated.

Indeed. It's brutal in parts. And CT is my favourite Ozzy song of all time.

I can honestly say I've never heard anyone say that about Rush

I remember early on when people who knew him speculated on what Randy would have done had he lived, someone said he loved the sound of keyboards in a band like Styx. I don't think the keys on the Diary tour sounded anything like that, to be honest. They work on Revelation, but I hated 'em on everything else, including Crowley.

Haha! Well Rush are excellent musicians, but I find most of their music insufferable. They have a few good songs, but they are waaaay overrated, IMO. Your mileage may vary!

I'm wondering if Randy would have moved on from enjoying the keyboards when music shifted in the 90's and ditched the massive amounts of keyboards that were everywhere.

Whatever he would have done, I'm sure it would have been interesting.

Mike Schenker got heavy into adding keyboards to his MSG stuff... it'd have been cool to hear a collaborative effort between Schenker and Randy

That would have been interesting, if just for the collaboration itself. I just find that keyboards tend to dominate whatever mix they're in, and sometimes they even drown out other parts. I guess they're ok if used sparingly, but most things I've heard with keyboards DON'T use them sparingly. Oh well, matter of opinion, I guess.
