You would think Rhino (QR the RR years) would be the one who could do the job. They do need approval and I don't think that will happen. I have the Albums, single and the Epic/CBS Holland CD releases but I doubt those are legit. Like I said before wine is okay but any actual music isn't. Remember Randy didn't like the job he did playing on it when he became big. He died soon after that.

Again with the wine? The woman makes wine for a living and paid tribute to her brother, why is that so bad?hansolo wrote:You would think Rhino (QR the RR years) would be the one who could do the job. The records will not be released in Delores Rhoads lifetime because she doesn't like the quality of the performance nor the quality of the compositions. From what I gather from talking to people who know her, Delores Rhoads is a 'music snob' (not a bad thing), meaning she expects a high standard from musicians at the professional level. Based on what Kevin DuBrow said when he was doing the RR Years CD, she felt the songs were poor quality and didn't want them released. She has the final say, so they are not and will not be officially released.
Randy, however, in an interview with John Stix, said that while the records weren't great, he felt Quiet Riot was an American band and the records should have been released in the United States. Had he lived, I'm sure they'd have been released. Although, had he lived. left Ozzy and gone back to school, the market for them might have been even less than the market for them now is.
'Course this is merely my opinion.

Do you, or does anyone, have a link to the interview with John Stix? Apparently it kinda contradicts what I remember...Randy, however, in an interview with John Stix, said that while the records weren't great, he felt Quiet Riot was an American band and the records should have been released in the United States. Here is Randy Perry's thread on that interview. I read through it and didn't find the quote I was thinking of... maybe it was a different interview. Now I'm going to have to go looking.Sky wrote:Do you, or does anyone, have a link to the interview with John Stix? Yes, I am. It obviously something I disagree with, like the 13,000 guitar. It's my opinion. First, it's isn't Kathy's company, it's her husbands. It's not RR wine by the Rhoads winery. They slapped his likeness to sell more bottles of alcohol. How do you know Randy would approve? Better still, we are all fans here. We know what has been put out and what hasn't. I need not anyones approval for my opinion but when I hear how picky they are for releasing RR material and talk about people getting ripped off, I don't mind pointing out how painfully obvious that the RR wine at $80 is BS. Maybe diet Coke could release some RR diet Coke signature series bottles (what was in the diet coke in the 70's?) because at least we knew he drank that. Look the family can release anything they want but we have a choice if we want to buy it or think it's a rip-off. It's greed when they claim they want to honor his legacy and put out something so non-related.

Thanks for posting. Please post the quote if you find it. So, basically, until Randy's family puts out what you want them to, you'll be negative about them. Why not contact them directly and discuss your opinion?hansolo wrote:"Again with the wine? The woman makes wine for a living and paid tribute to her brother, why is that so bad?"

For the record, $80 for a bottle of wine is not an outrageous amount. Would I pay $80 for a bottle of wine? No, but that doesn't mean much, 'cause I drink Jack and it's $17 a bottle at Wal-Mart.

You and I disagree, and we both have a right to our opinions. You did a good job of explaining your point, and although I disagree with it, I understand it. I'll drop any wine references from here on out.

Not wanting to start a flame war here, but hansolo has a point. The stuff that's "official" that's out there is negligible, and frankly, obscure and marginal. If you're not a wine drinker, what's the point? If you don't have 13 grand to spend on a LE guitar, you're out of luck. If you're not a hardcore collector and want to collect these things simply because they have "Randy Rhoads" somewhere on the item, then really, you're stuck. Hell, we can't even get an official, modern T-SHIRT, for heaven's sake, and that would be incredibly simple, unobtrusive, and more than respectful. I fail to see how anything of substance has been "officially" released.Paul Wolfe wrote:So, basically, until Randy's family puts out what you want them to, you'll be negative about them. This is not being disrespectful to the family; it's simply stating that there's a very small cross section of Randy related memorabilia out there. That's a fact. Contacting them and expressing your opinion about this would also end up nowhere, because 1) it's obvious from what's out there, there's no motivation to release anything else, 2) they will release what they want to release, regardless of what any of us think, and 3) it's not our call. Yeah, it's sucks, but the lack of product out there speaks volumes, as does the action taken with folks that try to overstep their bounds with "licensed" stuff (ie. Margolis). It's gonna be what it's gonna be. So to say to someone who's lamenting the fact that there's not much out there to "talk to the family" is a cop out, because it would probably never happen, and it wouldn't matter anyway.
And lastly, as a consumer, and I've said this before, ABSOLUTELY people have the right to be critical about the lack of material/stuff out there to be released, as well as what's out there currently, if it's pointless. Let's address the elephant in the room - what's out there is mostly "meh", and until someone steps up and produces something Randy related of quality and integrity, this discussion will continue to happen. Frankly, I'm happy with what's out there, and what I have. Do I wish there was more? Sure. Do I think it will happen that more "official" stuff will be released? Doubtful. I can see how people are frustrated with the lack of anything Randy related. Do I think we should be anything less than respectful to the family? No. However, discussions like this are not without merit. Perhaps someone will take the initiative and release something great. Who knows?

Yeah well said i totally agree, you just have to go on ebay and see the prices some of the items with a RR tag on them sell for. That's because nothing is being released and the older items are becoming more collectible and harder to find. If it doesn't get approved by the family it's a bootleg product that isn't making the family any money and is deemed as a big NO NO item. I'm NOT telling the Rhoads to get off their arses and start selling merchendise as such. But a good quality affordable item would be nice to see. I think the last thing i seen that was approved was the Tribute Jackson book that was a limited edition. That is now a very rare collectible and a pricey one if that.CanuckRhoadsFan wrote:Not wanting to start a flame war here, but hansolo has a point. Re: Nice Little Thread Over On The Steve Hoffman Forum..
Had the wine been 10+ years old, I'd expect that price tag ($70) from eBay. Everything is way over-priced, like the Concord relic ($13K). It's for the special fan, yeah I ain't that special in the head to buy it. It should have been a limited production for $3,000 and no relicing needed. It will relic itself in time. I think the 2002 Charvel/Fender EVH strats were around $3,500.
I said it before and I'll say it again, we are all growing older. Of course Randy will have new fans but it's tough to keep things interesting like here. I get sick of some of the 'so what is Randy's best song' or 'which randy solo..." generic topics that sound like people are trying to start a thread. Nothing new to discuss but in desperation in the face of silence.
Great point. A shirt. Beautiful, simple and I wish I had though of it. Why can't they put out something as simple as a shirt? It really seems like IMHO that the have been trying to bury Randy for 31 years and he keeps popping up. In defense of the family, it must be a painful memory but why haven't they really come to terms with it? IMHO they should have 'used' Randy to further Musonia. Used his likeness and put "All proceeds go to Musonia school of music" on items to sell. Then I don't think I would be upset as much over the wine but when there is so little out there it's like, wine?

Sorry mate, having met Randy, a shirt doesn't do it for me! Randy was and will always be QUALITY to me, a fuckin' shirt doesn't do him justice IMOH. How the family that HE loved and respected choose to remember him is their business.hansolo wrote:Had the wine been 10+ years old, I'd expect that price tag ($70) from eBay. I've never been to Musonia but by all accounts they seem to be very willing to welcome Randy's fans. Have you been to Musonia to see what it's like for yourself or are you making assumptions about what the family do and don't do at the place?
We all love what Randy left behind and we can all speculate on what may or may not be in archives collecting dust, but do we have a right to dictate to his family? Hell no!
As for the wine ( sorry Shaun..

Re: Nice Little Thread Over On The Steve Hoffman Forum..
I guess I just see things differently. When I first became obsessed with Randy Rhoads, I was 14. Back then there was Blizzard of Ozz. I remember when Diary of a Madman first appeared in the record department at Fred Meyers. I remember the radio announcement when Randy died. When Guitar Player magazine did a Randy Rhoads tribute in November 1982, I read the issue over and over and over – because that’s all there was.
Tribute didn’t come out until I was 21. When I bought that cassette of a lesson given by Randy, it was like gold. I couldn’t hear a word he said because the quality sucked, but it was something! I had a button on my denim jacket and a poster I found in a specialty record store. That was it.
From time to time, Guitar for the Practicing Musician would have a piece on Randy… I bought everything as it appeared. When Kevin put out Quiet Riot: The Randy Rhoads Years, it was amazing to hear something 'new'.
These days you have video, countless bootlegs, coffee table books, books by bandmates… his playing has been studied to the nth degree and anyone can pick up a DVD an learn to play his songs. You have hundreds of photographs and a community on the web to talk about him. You want a copy of any record Randy was on? a couple clicks and it's yours.
Until 2003 (age 37), I knew, maybe, 3 people who had heard of Randy Rhoads from a source other than me. For the first 23 years after I discovered Randy, I couldn’t even discuss him with anyone who knew anything more than I did.
So, to me, you already have a treasure trove. Anything else is gravy. Yet still you complain because you want more.
I, too, get “get sick of some of the 'so what is Randy's best song' or 'which randy solo..." generic topics that sound like people are trying to start a thread. Nothing new to discuss but in desperation in the face of silence.” Which is why I started the thread discussing his playing in Mr. Crowley. There are things to talk about, if you want to. The younger fans can learn loads, but the older ones are bitching because they don’t want to rehash discussions… imagine our ancestors feeling that way, we’d have had no history passed down to us.
When I make comments saying there is too much complaining, this is where I’m coming from.
Oh, and by the way, the wine is $53 a bottle. Safeway has bottles that expensive. Just sayin'

Keep drinking it if you like it. What should they sell or this is enough to put out OFFICIALLY of all things Randy? I'm not dictating anything to anyone. The family will always do what they want to do and they have every right to. The shirt suggestion is to set up the official RR stuff and benefit the school to keep it going. How is the school doing in this current state of Beiber? I liked that idea for advertisement to sell his audio lessons w/tab, music, techniques, guitars, etc. Wouldn't you like to buy an official Rhoads product that benefits Musonia, a school of music? The sky's the limit but items should be the best quality possible. 1st generation tape of a Randy lesson that is audible but not hifi? Is it the best possible quality? Is it a good lesson? It should all be used to further Randy's name and the school. If you feel they have already put out enough then, you are content and haven't much to say
If you want to discuss THE Crowley solo, very cool with me in fact I added to that post or another about the importance of theory, especially if you want to play Randy. Some posts that I have clicked on and it seemed like somebody started a poll to see how many responses they get. They don't even reply back sometimes. If I start a thread, I am genuinely interested in it. I'm sure we cover old ground too. I'm getting older and I might forget something only to re-discover it but I am still re-interested in it. Like the amp (100 watt Marshall) Randy used to record both albums.

You know it would be so easy to be offended by the way that you phrase your remarks. However, as for the shirt idea that IMO is crass, isn't Musonia a School of Music that's been going for over 60 years? Where did you read that the school was run on a charitable basis and in need of donations 'to keep it going'? BTW, I doubt that Beiber has any influence on the curriculum at Musonia, or its pupils.
I also seriously doubt that the members of this site could agree how to best honour Randy. Personally, I'd like to see a scholarship in Randy's name so that at least one talented guitarist could receive a classical training that he or she might not be able to afford... Maybe one already exists.
Whatever Randy's family do or don't do will be criticised, they're caught between a rock and a hard place.
As for whether I'm content with what's out there, I own the only 2 albums that Randy was proud to be a part of, they were a gift, I treasure them and I play them often. So yes, I suppose that I am content, but whether that means I 'haven't much to say' is debatable.
