I was just considering going out this afternoon to buy a vintage Les Paul and a mid-70's Marshall before I attempt this...
I think the pawn shop Strat will work just fine for now...

Talking about essence of "coolness"
I got myself a shiny black Tokai Les Paul some time ago; it´s some kinda vintage guitar- think... Good weapon anyways!!!

Saw one of those at my local Pawn Shop a while back for $150. At the time I didn't have the spare cash... hopefully another such gem will appear.
By the by, I never thought much about it, but I recently saw a video online discussing the differences in scale length between a Gibson and a Fender and now I
really want something with a Gibson scale length.

Tokai are VERY GOOD Les Paul copys. For the price they are much better than there Gibson counter parts. A really nice used Tokai from the 70-90's will set you back around $1200 last time i checked. They are great guitars.
Also check out Edwards, its ESP's Japan division and they are also great LP's. Still regret selling mine and will most likely pick up another one in a year or so. That thing smoked the $3,000 1968 LP Custom Reissue I had...for a 1/3 the price.
Speaking of prices...The 50's LP studio i picked up also smokes that 68 reissue I had, it also sustains a ton more than the 68 and the Edwards(although the Edwards action/neck were like butter)
For only $600-$800 the best new guitar you can buy right now is the 50's studio tributes. Try em out! Gibson really got the shit together the last couple years and are building really good cheaper end stuff.
I got the goldtop

Funnily enough, I didn´t have cash with me either- when I spotted the Tokai LP!!! But our band´s bass player was hanging out with me and he borrowed me the money for guitar and ended up buying a fresh bass for himself at the same time!!!
I´m gonna have to check out what year/model that LP is...it´s bit trashed with scratches and all, heavy as a lead and fine guitar to play!!!

Right, I think I managed to identify my copy of Tokai Les Paul.
it looks exactly like the ones pictured here:

so, the model would be 1982!!! I thought that it´s like maybe 1985, at first- but this looks more like it
