Did Randy try a Boss OD1 ?

Looks to me he did. It seem he had this pedal external connected to his pedalboard and placed on top of it. In the first pic it doesn't look yellow probably because of the stage lights. When looking at the second pic it's yellow and behind the two knobs there is yellow as well, so the knobs are on a lower surface than the rest of the upper surface of the pedal, as with all Boss stompboxes. So for sure it's not a MXR dist+ which has one flat upper surface with the knobs on top of it.
The Boss OD1 came out in 1977, so it was already there when Randy was still with us.
But maybe there was another simular looking pedal at the time?
Any thoughts? Just curious!

Were these pictures taken in Liverpool in December 1981 Dutch?

The MXR Phaser had only one knob if I remember correctly.
Also the two knobs you see on the pedal in the first picture are on a lower surface as with all Boss pedals. The MXR phaser had only one upper surface level.

Looks like a large pedal to be a Boss.

On second thought, the MXR pedals he used were very small.

He had to use stomp boxes at the LA Blizzard gig as his pedal board broke.

The colour is practically identicle to the Boss DS-1 in the first one. It has 3 knobs, the two on each side are large and the middle one (output) is little. I'm pretty sure it's a Boss because on the back you have the power supply input in the exact same place as that black square which is on the picture.

Was watching the Palladium footage and you can see there an external pedal on top of his pedalboard as well. The pedal is about in the same position as in the pictures above.

To me it still looks like an OD1.

That second picture looks like the 1st show of the Palladium, just from a lot of the shots I've seen from that show. So maybe he was using it just at the beginning of the Blizzard era

that wouldnt make any sense though. in his interview with the fans in '82 he says he uses his d+ and his 10 band eq for everything... and it wouldnt make anysense to stack pedals with his mxr because hes getting distortion from the amp...
however it could be a backup pedal incase the mxr dies? the mxr had no 9vt battery slot so its a possibility

To me, it makes some sense. I mean, I've never played through his amp, with his settings and pedal board, but his tone has always seemed very full and distorted and such.
But whenever I hear people playing through his signature amp, and a D+ and EQ and such, their tone sounds weaker than Randy's. Maybe it's just me though.
