Adam Jones is that good i have never heard of him and how popular are Tool ?. I remember Jack Osbourne had a sticker of them on his bedroom door. Don't get me wrong i've heard of Tool but i'm sure all the times i've bought guitar mags i would of read about this guy. The rest of the contenders i would put on the list highly. But for me i'd say Adrian Smith is a better player then Dave Murray. Surprised Jimmy Page didn't make the grade.

I don't know if VH is metal at all :?
and as far as Hammett goes, the first part of the description says it all:
Metallica is the definitive metal band
8)

thats why i said IF he s to be on the list.

I think RR is more metal than KH.Metallica is thrash-thud.
Regardless kh is magnitudes removed from RR s playing.

True, Hammett couldn't hold a torch to Randy Rhoads, however, Metallica has done more for metal guitar than Randy ever did as far as influencing the masses. I truly believe Randy Rhoads is an inspiration to those who are connoisseurs of hard rock guitar. Kirk Hammett is for those who just want balls to the wall metal blasting in their face. In that respect I'd put Kirk above Randy from the point of view of the masses... Randy was a better player than Iommi, too, but no one will dispute Tony as THE metal guitar player.

Great. I'm glad he is not forgotten and is some places higher than Zakk. I like Zakk too, but I know he wouldn't want himself to be ranked higher than 'Saint Rhoads' :).

Both Hammett and Hetfield are on #2. I don't know if I would place them in the top 10 if they'd count as 2 spots. Iommi #1 as Paul Wolfe said is no problem for me. He IS a riff master. He makes the simplicity work. Randy is more all-round compared to him.

I remember when Jake took over the guitar spot in Ozzy's band. When he was asked about filling Randy's shoes, he made a comment about how he felt Randy was on another level, but when 'fans' would say, "You suck, you're not Randy!" He said he felt like saying, "Maybe I'm not Randy, but I can play better than you!"

Kirk and James fit that category. The armchair quarterbacks on message boards can say all they want about who doesn't deserve to be ahead of Randy in a list, but I'd bet the guys in Metallica can play better (on their worst day) than 99.9% of the Internet hacks.

Quit whining, Randy made the list and that's great because that means his legacy still stands.

In a Guitar Heroes magazine from August 1982 Randy was positioned at #7 in a poll of 75 guitarists.
1 - Michael Schenker
2 - Ritchie Blackmore
3 - Angus Young
4 - Jimmy Page
5 - Jimi Hendrix
6 - Tony Iommi
7 - Randy Rhoads
8 - Alex Lifeson
9 - Dave Murray
10 -Rudolph Schenker + Eddie Van Halen
When you think back alot of these bands had hit the big time and everyone was listening to them i.e Scorpions AC/DC MSG etc but after all this time the same guys are being mentioned 30 years later. ? That's some honour when you consider how many great musicians & bands who don't even get a mention in polls now.

Lists are opinion/popularity driven and will never please everyone. Kirk Hammett was a big fan of Randy's playing and he had a RR Jackson too. Adam from tool is a really good guitarist who did a lot of odd time changes or riffs that had not been done in "metal" before. Still if it is a list of 10 or 100, none of us would probably agree that it is correct. Where is so and so and I can't believe they put so and so at #12...
