I wonder what Randy thought of Cheap Trick?

I know this is somewhat of a stretch but one of my all time favorite bands is Cheap Trick. Those guys were/are a stellar band. I don't think get the credit they deserve though many have covered them and siighted them as an influence. Can't believe they are not in R&R Hall of Fame.
I wonder if CT had much influence on QR. There is the Japanese connection kind of. I always loved the way Rick Nielsen threw little fills around much the way Randy did.

As I recall, Randy didn't like Cheap Trick. He thought they were a sloppy band or something, and was annoyed that all of his students wanted to learn Cheap Trick songs.

I absolutely LOVE Cheap Trick, but have to admit Rick's lead playing isn't technical, but good. Unfortunately his live playing has been very sloppy. I don't know if it's because he is getting older or if he just never challenged himself. It would be interesting to know what songs Randy did work on with his students other than the one's we've heard on tape, such as Queen.

Kelle Rhoads did tell me himself that Randy owned the first Queen record and asked Kelle to check it out. He liked them. You can even hear him playing Tie Your Mother Down on one of the lesson tapes. I'm pretty sure that was the song. It's been a little while since I've heard it.

One of the reasons I brought this up is because if you listen to the opening of Ain't That a Shame on "Live at Budokan" or from this live appearence
http://youtu.be/EyW1p7SpYW8 there is an acsending lick similar to the one RR did on CT.
