Why do Randy and George Lynch hold their picks the same way?
Is there a reason for this?

'cause George is a copycat!
He even does the same thing with his mouth!!

Seriously, with George I'd say it has to do with hitting the whammy bar... may be the same for Randy, I'd have to look for pictures of him playing from before he got his polka-dot V.

The same way? No way
If you check close up videos of George you'll see that
he picks with one of the rounded corners of the pick

It's a matter of how comfortable the pick feels it's not a 'if i hold it that way i'll play or shred quicker' etc. Randy has the pick tucked in tight with very little of the pick showing. The pick isn't held at his thumb and forefinger tip its midway down his thumb. Playing the pick like this does make your hand more free for using your hand for mutting and if you try it you'll understand.

Speaking of picking... Has anybody seen Marty Friedmans picking hand?

Not very familiar with Marty Friedman, but do you mean this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwP0gUBCVIUStiltzkin wrote:Speaking of picking... Has anybody seen Marty Friedmans picking hand?
Interestingly enough, when I was in a band I used to tie a bandana around the nut of my guitar for muting. Back then I was very into acoustic styles that forgo picking in favour of multi finger tapping. So we had a track in progress where I tapped for the whole thing. I would never have pulled it off without the bandana

Wow, you all went for the actual pick in his hand!!?!
I assumed he was referring to the way he holds his hand against the bridge and fans out the fingers, which is why I posted those two pictures...

I was just curious why they both fanned out their fingers in similar ways.
