Big Bang Theory is one of the few shows on TV that I like. The Sheldon Cooper character is hilarious.

It's certainly popular, I know a lot of people that love it. I personally consider it american comedy at it's worst, as well as criminally insulting to the art of scriptwriting in general. But hey, there we go!

lol, "Art" of scriptwriting! Some of the shows and movies that are being pumped out of Hollywood these days are among the worst garbage I've ever seen! The Big Bang Theory is an awesome show and like Cable Guy it too is one of the few shows I like.

Well, I don't really mean art of scriptwriting, Ooh La La! Just things like basic narrative progression, the ability to tie two scenes together without jump cuts and carry an idea further than one cheap line. The show is trapped in the wrong format and weighed down by using the same joke on a loop.

I'd say it goes to show that not everything needs to be global... back in the day, television shows in the U.S. were created for citizens in the U.S. with no thought of other countries interest. Now everyone wants the whole world to share in everything produced.
Over the years I've seen a number of British television shows, and I don't like/don't get them. A hit show in the UK doesn't translate to a hit show in the US (unless we steal the concept and Americanize it)... I'd say the Big Bang Theory is one of those shows meant for US consumption. I love this show and think it's hilarious. It'd be nice if they could find humor in non-sex-related topics - but that just goes to show the frame of mind most viewers in this country are in so often.
Ultimately, Sheldon Cooper will be a pop icon for years. Hopefully Jim Parsons will find life after Sheldon.
