New to the board and I tried to search

... for a thread about collectively mining for RR footage, perhaps this has been addressed already (and if so I apologize, but it won't make this post any less redundant) but has there been any collective effort to take that RR on the road thread, to identify contacts one can contribute in search of old video that may be somewhere in a vault? I mean, there has to be something, somewhere- one would think? And if we all canvassed the venues, radio stations, newsprograms, etc; am I retarded to think perhaps we could come up with something?
Seems to me that I could handle making a list and following through with it. I know, I know "what if the Osbournes would have to sign off on it", blah blah- but what if the purpose isn't for commercial release, but private viewing? I know that I'd be down to do what I could- but I wasn't sure if this has been addressed before.
So I thought I'd take a shot. So, yay/nay?

There hasn't been one collective effort that I know of, but just about every possible known avenue has been researched either through UR or tk.
Another shot never hurt.

I'm wondering if collectively canvassing would make a difference, perhaps, ya never know.

Most of the die hard footage fans have chased up places and people with emails. But realisticaly if any footage is lying some where untouched and more then likely beyond the watchable after its deteriated in some filing cabinet over time ?. The hope did come to fruition when Peter Margolis went looking for footage for his docu. Plus he had plenty people guiding him to places to seek out this footage and old unseen photos etc. Would we of ever heard Bob Daisley mentioning his 'Grail tapes' if it wasn't for him doing the interview for that docu ?. Sometimes things can happen and i personaly don't think Ozzy has anything hidding away or he would of used it. If anything he probably has some soundboard recordings that are below his vocal standard. Something he doesn't want to release because of other band members wanting paid etc. But for every year when the board is quiet some info does come back with the possibilties of something hidding away or a rumour to chase up.

Ive said this before & I will say it again - come March 19 (& I will bet my house on this) there will be something "just discovered" released. Wether its video footage, unseen pictures, or a soundboard recording that we all thought didnt exist - in a little under 7 weeks here on this forum we will be raving on about it...

Pictures maybe ? but for the fans who have been waiting 30+ years for footage or at best a soundboard recording. I'd happily bet that these don't show in 7 weeks we've been waiting for years with very little to show for it.

Perhaps a new effort could start with members on this board looking at the Ozzy tour itineries and identifying dates and places that occurred near where you currently live (or reasonable driving distance)? Then it would be a matter of visiting the venue and inquiring about past audio / video recording policy and seeing if they still have any local archives - and if not what may have happened to them. So, in summary, doing your own local investigations, developing leads and sources for possible local material, and following up with them to confirm existence or non-existence of any audio or video recordings. This could even be done with local news stations, as it's well known that by '82 Ozzy was generating much press as he went from city to city, and often clips of footage were shown on the news when they reported about his upcoming local show and any controversy related to it.
At least then, we could start to rule out for sure what tour dates audio and video material doesn't exist from. And who knows - someone may get lucky and discover a venue's in-house recording of a show from 30 years ago that no one knew existed...and you'd probably be lucky enough to view it if something was discovered to see exactly what it was. So, there's an incentive right there - being the first to see a "lost" show and tell the world about it.

I've printed out the thread, I've identified 6 venues- now just to begin finding more substantive info on some of those dates (venues played at, but info and venues may have changed in 30+ yrs) I think that the news media would be a good thing, and also what radio stations may have also drummed up sales.
I'm hopeful, and not cos I want to be the '1st' -- I just doubt that critical thought has always been applied- and applied consistently to this endeavor. for example, that doc may or may not happen but no one can seem to agree on anything relating to that, let alone if the people in the doc have canvassed anything extensively. I've seen direct appeals on blabbermouth for information for the doc; do I trust that someone followed up on each and every lead- and do I want to take their word that there is "nothing" for sure?
not really, least not in my backyard.

IF we were to find any footage...
Who has the funds to take it off respective owners hands?

Have to cross that bridge when we get to it I guess, but I'm not worried about that right now.

during the 1980 tour the road crew recorded all the shows and when the band returned in 1981 to tour with 'Diary' they made SB recordings of all three shows.

Ultimately, yes, but it will still be a major issue.
Suppose we track stuff down, whether it be audio or video,
do you honestly think whoever has their hands on it will
let it go for free?
In all honesty, it's not such a bad idea, but there has to be
means to back it up in the end. Makes you wonder why
NOONE has put up any sort of effort in 30years?

You are right of course, but it amazes me how people always want money for these kinda things.

I guess the thing is you just never know until you try.
I think confirming the existence of video or audio is a first step...and from there you never know. You could be dealing with someone who has NO IDEA what you are looking at - especially archival stuff from 30 years ago. Some young kid or old geezer could be like, "Ozzy who?" or "Randy who?", and you just might be able to walk out of there with a relic - or at least make arrangements to view or transfer it to other media.
You just never know until you try.
Yup, most of us will end up at dead ends. Most of us will give up hope. Most of us will say this is useless. But then again, perhaps...just perhaps, one of us will find "something".
Determination means something. After all, when I was determined to find out the actual date of the Montreal show - supposedly on 7.31.81 that didn't make sense because the band flew and played the Heavy Metal Holocaust at Port Vale, UK, the NEXT day, I found it after hours in the Boston Public and Harvard University libraries pouring over Canadian newspapers on or around that date until...gold. I found the ad rescheduling the show from the listed date to 7.28.81, was able to copy it, and send it on to Randy Perry for posting on his website, which was the best site for anything RR at the time.
We here all love RR. It wouldn't take much to develop and track down a few leads to see if something that has been overlooked for many years exists.
My gut tells me there's not much anyone will find, but my heart tells me there's got to be something, somewhere that will be unearthed. Then, let the pieces fall where they may with whoever owns it - but perhaps first, genuine proof can be offered on this board and others that it really exists.
