Box set live footage

Post by Stewie »

If I'm not mistaken, every time a band member gets asked if there is any live footage they say "not that I know of" (?).
The live footage filmed shot in front of Rudy got me thinking.. Is there any way the band members could be forced to deny footage by having signed a contract? I'm not implying that Rudy Sarzo had to lie, he probably didn't notice or forgot the camera man... altough the camera was very very close to him. BTW Didn't he wrote Off the Rails based on a diary? I guess if he saw the camera man he would've mentioned in the diary.

It is a bit of a stretch and I don't think it's true but why not discuss I guess!

I honestly think the band on stage don't see a great deal of what's going on in the crowd. The spotlights glare is like being in the headlights of a car to the guys on stage. Yeah when the house lights come up at the end of the show etc. Plus it was a good way to get your ass thrown out of the gig. So you had to keep a low profile with recording equipment and 35mm still and 8mm cameras.

If you look at the photos/video from the Palladium sets, you'll notice the stage extended forward quite a bit from the front floor monitors. As an experienced live musician myself, you really don't see much from the stage except what is directly in front of you within a few feet in most cases (during indoor shows where the only lighting is the stage lights.). So, you add stage lighting and that kind of distance between you and the crowd. It would be very easy for the band not to notice someone with a camera/video camera.

At the time that Rudy was in the band, no one had any idea there'd be an interest in footage in 2011, so it's not surprising he didn't log it in his diary. Not to mention that at the time he figured he and Randy would still be talking about their days with Ozzy by the time 2011 rolled around. If he knew Randy was going to be gone so soon, he'd likely have recorded a lot differently in that diary.

The Flying Dutchman wrote:I remember Rudy Sarzo's words when he was asked about that Texas soundcheck footage, it was something like this: "sometimes they were allowed to film the rest of the night and sometimes not"

Of course this was not Pro shot but still his comment sounded like it was not a 'unique' happening......
