The Demise of the '02 Rerecordings...

...and good riddance, I say!
I was in another location of Newbury Comics yesterday, now having triple-checked that they will be carrying the box, so I don't have to play the waiting game through Ozzy's store, and I noticed in his section, they had both Blizzard and Diary on sale for $6.99 each...the regular price was $8.99.
Aside from circulating used copies, they only have a few weeks left of being available to the public.
Having worked part time for Sam Goody a decade ago, I know from here there will be something called a 'pull-down' where certain titles are pulled from the bins and ultimately sent back to their respective record labels to be destroyed, as a newer remastered/expanded editions have taken their places.
Out of sheer curiosity, I wonder what Bordin & Trujillo got for their performances? I am thinking it was a flat fee for doing the job and paid out once, as that's how Sharon likes to operate.
Someday, that will most likely come out

That is an interesting question.
I will never forget the day i bought those CD's got to the car to hear the new sound and 20 secs into I DON"T KNOW i was like "WTF, This sounds awful" I then read the liner notes and at the very end noticed the "re-issue information" What a disappiontment that was. I am and always will be a huge ozzy fan. I love every CD the man has ever been associated with. But that was without a doubt the darkest day in Ozzy's career when he allowed those to be released.

It would be funny if the '02 recordings become collectables someday. How could you justify wanting to have them other than they were something torn apart by the fans?

Actually, I knida like the 2002 versions of BOO and Diary. I dunno. They sound cool. I guess I just like the fact that they were able to completely replicate the parts note for note and also were able to get the same tone out of their instruments (bass and drums).
I know it's not authentic, but heck, I play the 2002 versions all the time.
Don't hate me! Please!

I know. I fully expect to get some egg on my face for that comment. But heck, I love the fact that they sat there in the studio and got the exact same tone.
Does anyone know how they did it? Did Trujillo play the same Fender bass as Bob? did he use the same amps with the same settings, same mic pre's, same everything? It's actually amazing how they got it to sound so similar. Almost identical.

Who cares? It's scab work, period. I don't hate Bordin and/ or Trujillo...if it wasn't them, numbnuts would've gotten someone else.
What was done was a blight on the history of music. It should never have happened, and I lost a lot of respect for Ozzy, as for one he tries to pass off that he didn't know that had happened, for another, he's half a man, as he doesn't have the balls to stand up to his own management, put his fucking foot down and say what's what.
It's his name up there, but he has zero courage to protest and tell her what she did was wrong...there's simply no other way around it. Not even Sony, Epic, Jet, whoever the fuck told her no, but in the long run, they lost money, as those travesties are bargin bin bullshit now, along with Milli Vanilli, Debbie Gibson and Trixter.
What really sucks is that Randy's name is attatched to such a major embarassment.
If you like the re-recordings, that's your business and your preference, but do not be suprised if you don't find many who'd want to have a positive discussion about them.
Peace,
T.

*numbnuts*
Classic! That made me laugh, cause it reminded me of what a writer said about Ozzy (from a Diary show review) he said something like..."Ozzy was wearing red sweatpants and was ANYTHING but a Mad Man on stage" - basically running around sweaty and telling people to ..."go F-ing crazy!!!!", and he was basically two-tons-of-fun in some cheesy red sweatpants.
So, numbnuts is totally appropriate for him.
I had a great conversation with a buddy of mine here at work (he's also a big BOO and Diary fan) and he was saying Ozzy is the type of guy that doesn't do anything BUT sing in a band. He never really evolved. Guys like Brian May (Queen) are scientists, Tom Scholz (Boston) and Engineer, Ted Nugent (Hunter/businessman), the list goes on and on...
But Ozzy? When he's not on tour or in the studio? He's basically a couch potato with a habit.

It would be cool if they were a collectable. From what I heard from friends and the internet that everyone hated it. I signed some internet petition in like 2002/2003??? While it was a crappy thing to do to Bob and lee as well as the fans, I too like (very small) the fact it was a different remix of Randy's GUITAR. I don't like it for the bass and drums but (I haven't heard them in a while) that it was SOMETHING different with Randy's guitars. But yeah, don't play that in public!
Let us be reminded of the witch burnings in Salem, the book burnings in Berlin and the record albums burned in the south by churches in the 80's. Disco had gone away and was a fad by hipsters and this-is-where-it's-at people (constant - what's new). It's best if we don't burn things that suck. You can stop talking about them and they go away or you can keep fueling the hate.
Oh yeah, here is my 1995 Remaster from China. I bought it like 1996. It has a cardboard slip case. I didn't think I would see it but it did arrive. I wonder what it says in Chinese????

I agree I hated that they wiped Bob and Lee off the cds. That was brutal. I did like the remix on Randys guitars also.
