Original BOO Line-Up and Name?

Post by AndrewT1976 »

Very excited for the 30th anniversary stuff coming out this May, however...

I've heard recently that there was a different bassist and drummer in the very early inception of Blizzard of Ozz (before Daisley and Kerslake joined)? Also, their early rehearsals were under the band name "The Law."

Any tuth to this? If so, do any recordings exist?

Also - has there ever been a live performances of the following DOAM tunes:

Little Dolls
Tonight
SATO
Diary of a Madman
You Can't Kill Rock and Roll

Were these EVER played during the DOAM tour? At ANY show(s)? Maybe even a soundcheck or rehearsal? I am SO bummed out to think that the ONLY versions of these tunes might quite possibly be the studio versions. The fade-out bass licks by Bob Daisley on Little Dolls are enough to get my blood churning. If I could hear that live, it would be insane!

Thanks so much for the information. Does anyone know if ANY Ozzy-related interviews, recordings, photos, ect exist during the time period after he left Black Sabbath and before Dana Strum introduced RR to him? I would call this era the "Ozzy Down Time era." I would also love to know more about any Lynch/RR meetings, and Eddie VH/RR meetings.

I am assuming there are thousands upon thousands of folks who attended Quiet Riot shows and Ozzy shows (from 80-82') that took photos, ect. How can these folks NOT release everything they have. It's just strange to think that there are some rolls of film laying around that might have never been developed - but yet contain a few pics of the Ozzy/Randy era.

If you read the book by Gary Sharp Young "Ozzy Osbourne,The story of the Ozzy Osbourne Band" it is prob the most accurate account in print of the Blizzard oof oZZ Band and the Various incarnations of it.But to answer your Questions

Blizzard of Ozz-was a name Ozzys Father had come up with & Ozzy had it made into a T-Shirt as far back as 76-77 & When Ozzy Quit Sabbath the 1st time he had attempted to form a band to be Called the Blizzard of Ozz w/members of a band called Necromandes

The 1980 BOO Band played I believe only Two or Three shows Under the Psuedo-Name LAW just to get the band a little of a Feel for their Live Debue on the UK Fall 1980 BOO Tour
so any tapes of that would be similar to an early BLizzard show.Only difference was the Name

But I am Sure that Bob has recordings of this if they exsist.Thia Book has an Incredible Family Tree & Detailed account of the Various incarnations of Blizzard of Ozz many even before Randy!! There is only about 15-20 Pages of the RR era & a Good 30% of the Book is Just Family Trees/Discographys for the Various Members of Ozzy band over the vears,a very Bit Unneccisary as to have theese various Virtual NoNamed musicians track records & such but actually pretty cool and interesting as you wont find that kind of detail about Ozzys Various Band Members throughout 2002 when the book was written

I do remember someone who was trying out for Ozzy drummers before Lee having a tape and wanting to sell it to Sotheby's or some auction house a few years back. I never heard the tape and don't know if it was sold. It would have Randy, Bob and Ozzy on the recording. I think the first drummer's name was John?

Even though they didn't play these songs Live, Rudy wrote in his book that He, Tommy, and Don learned them all and rehearsed them during the rehearsals for the DIARY TOUR of the U.S. Because they weren't sure what songs would be added and Ozzy wasn't present. This was in England while ozzy was in a Clinic after the short tour they did in Europe Opening for Saxon. I would love to hear a recording of these JAMS. You know someone recorded it. To hear how Randy covered those songs live would be awesome even without the vocals.

Randy said (Greensboro seminar '82) they were doing DOAM live but the kids weren't buying it. Maybe in Europe late '81 of the few gigs before Ozzy cancelled. Tommy Aldridge says he has a drawer full of desk tapes that are a better performance than tribute. I could believe he has diary shows as well.

I thought Randy said Ozzy came out in a giant Hand and the kids weren't buying that.

I read somewhere that Randy said they tried Diary in rehearsal but he thought it sounded a little thin.

In Rudy's book it says that Ozzy had trouble hitting the notes, at the one rehearsal he was able to attend. (after being in the ST John's Woods Clinic), so due to limited time left and needing to pick at least one new song Ozzy went with Over The Mountain at Randy's suggestion for another up Tempo song.
Whats off though I think in Rudys book on that is they played in Germany before this rehearsal and played Over The Mountain Live.

Wow! Thanks for all the awesome info everyone!

Anyone know what type of bass Bob used on Diary LP? Especially on "Believer?" Sounds like a Fender P-bass to me, but could also be a Gibson EB-1.
