Also, if you look closely at Crazy Train from After Hours, all that wear and tear happened after that was filmed. Right at the beginning of the song, between him flippin' the toggle and then bending the neck you can clearly see a shot of the back of the guitar... It looks pretty pristine in that vid.
You can also see the brass cavity covers.. But I never noticed that before it was mentioned in regards to this guitar.

Randy Mjst have been grinding that guitar into dust for the last few months of his life, had he lived for another few years i bet when they opened the case they would have found a pile of chipings a few knobs a little wiring and some rusty strings!!

From the last show. Maybe it's from all the belts he started wearing on the last tour. The belt he wore with the purple vest would eat up some finish quick!

A Les Paul is just one of those guitars that still looks OK after taking a beating. It's just like a well-used tool. I dont mind that guitar looking like that. A flametop would be different, but a plain old LP like that, it still looks great IMO.

Battle scars is the word I think you were looking for.

Find me an LP without any - that LP hasn't been played.

It's a grey material covered vocal monitor.
Never realized how much wear Randy's LP had...

There's nothing worse than a guitar sitting in a case neglected. It makes them sad. Randy's '74 was no doubt proud to be the object of his affection nightly, and she felt loved. I'm sure she misses him dearly.

Cool to see it in detail, all we need to see is the headstock now, thanks for sharing photos.
