Randy's last photo question...

I don't hit the board as much as some others, although i've been signing on more often as of late......so forgive me if this has been discussed (i'm sure it has...)
I guess Don had taken some pictures of Randy & Rachel in the plane and i know Ozzy has said he's seen the pic of them standing in front of the plane before they got on.
Has Don ever showed anyone these or has anyone see them or possibly in the future/ever?
I found it kinda interesting and just wondered....

One thing I think about is everyone in Ozzy's band at the time have to carry this throughout the rest of their lives. Don and Jake in particular, as they had just gone up, then saw the whole thing happen.
I get the vibe that Don would probably not share these photos, as the events that transpired immediately after are hurtful to his heart and his mind.
Not everything needs to be made available to our eyes. Given the opportunity, I'd take a pass on seeing photos of 3/19/82. The only thing I'd gain is sorrow.
From an interview in '02:
BB: Sharon has mentioned you as being the "band photographer" on the road. Aren't there pictures that you took that morning?
Don Airey: Yeah.
BB: Do you still have those?
Don Airey: Of course.
BB: Did you take them just when you went up or were they flying around too?
Don Airey: I took a lot of photos.
BB: Did you take some of the scene afterwards?
Don Airey: I went in the house to see if I could get anyone out. There wasn't much left.
BB: I'm sorry, I know it's a heavy thing.
Don Airey: I don't know what to do. I don't know whether to talk about it or not.
BB: You know, this year is the 20th anniversary.
Don Airey: Oh, I know. March 19th of this year is a very difficult day for me. I send flowers every year. We've got pictures of him in our house. I remember him as best I can.
BB: Did you take a ton of pictures throughout the tour?
Don Airey: Yeah, yeah. Tons.

I know Rudy Sarzo has put some of his personal photos on the net and in his book. But i don't think Don has ever had any of his shots published and from what he's said in that interview. It sounds like he'd have a great photo diary of events on and off tour. I'm sure i read somewhere that he was writing a book ?.

Correct, Shaun...later in that very interview he had mentioned a book in the works. Not sure where that's at now, as the interview itself is eight years old.

Rudy wrote a book, Bob is writing a book and Don considered writing a book... it could really get interesting! Picture-wise, who knows what we´ll see when/if these books will materialize... Thumbs up!!!

Great interview!
But here's an interesting quote:
BB: What was the drivers mindset like when you went up in the plane with him? Did you notice him being a little wacky? I guess they found coke in his system during the autopsy. Sharon and Ozzy seem to believe that because the pilot's ex-wife was standing outside by the bus, that for a split second he saw her and wanted to "off" her and that's why he swooped down. Does that sound even possible to you?
Don Airey: I'll just say this one thing about this and I don't want to say anything more. I had to give a deposition to the FAA and the guy said to me, "If it's any comfort, this wasn't an accident."
BB: This was the head investigator?
Don Airey Yeah, he said, "but we can't say anything."
Hmmmm...

Halo, I think it was posted somewhere that Randy's sister, Kathy, is the only person Don showed those final photos to. Those photos are I'm guessing a very sensitive matter, simply cos they're the final moments of people's lives, so I'm not sure that they'll ever be widely available. Not sure that they need to be...just an opinion. Some will see it differently.

Very touchy subject indeed. I remember many, many restless nights after his passing worrying about him suffering. I have somewhat of a fire phobia, and it terrified me to think about it. Fortunately, years later I read the full autopsy and found he passed instantly from head trauma. I'm sorry if this is too sensitive, but I felt a huge weight lifted off my heart and a calming sense of peace knowing he felt no pain whatsoever.

I wonder if the photo of Randy and Rachel beside the bus was taken on that day. It looks like it was taken in the morning sun...

I think that was sooner. Randy was apparently wearing a Gibson tshirt the morning of the 19th:

I certainly would pass up the offer to see those pics of Dons.
He always struck me as a decent bloke............and kudos to him for not cashing in with his pics. Top man!

I have all 4 pages of the autopsy, but I really don't think that's something to be posted. What's your opinion Matt?
