Blizzard & Diary ReReRecordings-Classic albums

Post by DMRX »

I would really like to know if they are going to ReMix the Master tapes again,or just Remaster the Master Stereo Mixes???With all this Exciting News of a ReReRecording of Blizzard & Diary,it would be Ideal to make a Classic album/albums Documentary of theese two albums Filmed at Ridge Farm Studios
With interviews with Bob, Lee,Don Aiery & Ozzy and whomever else may have been there or involved w/it .
Max Norman could Play the tapes & discuss and dissect the tracks to show the layers of Randys guitar,Ozzys AWSOME Doubled Vocals, the cool assed keyboard parts that are buried in the mix,Soloed out Acoustic tracks, the Awsome Harmony Vocals that are Practicaly unnoticeable upon listening but would sound greatly different w/o them (which I first noticed them/learned firsthand listening to how bad they were done on the ReRecordings)
It would be cool to hear the Tubular bells from Revelation on their own track soloed out
& hear the tracks of Diary with & without the Strings & Choir ,and on their own.
The Possibilites are endless.
If they do,I think that Nobody but Max Norman would qualify for it,being that He was there & Engineered it & knew what tracks were what & what Randy & the guys were shooting for.Max has said before that he learned alot about Guitar Layers from Randy & if they are gonna Remix it again,Max is the man.Well I was just Left with such a BAD taste in my mouth from those Two guys who had handled the ReRecordings, the same guys who did Ozzys IMHO worst album Down to Earth,it sounded like their album & songs not Ozzys.
It Just Sounds like they didnt even do a Cross reference with the Originals when they came to Remixing them,I mean (to me its a cool Novilty just to hear them differently)But these were ALL BAD with the wrong Guitar tracks turned up in different songs & even some of Ozzys Vox were different too.At least I know for BOO Randy & the band were there and Very Involved with the Overall mix,Just listen to I dont Know. Those guitar layers are Sick.
I can Dream Right??

I doubt they will do anything to randys guitars, they probably spent spot of time on the 2002 remasters doing alot with it. The the bass and drums suck on those but the guitar does sound great.

No matter what they won't sound very different from what we got already(95 remasters) Only thing I would like is the keyboard to be up front more on mr Crowley. That keyboard riff during the verses is very nice and you can hear it best on the Montreal shows recording.

AGREED,that Keyboard riff during the Verses is Awsome!!You can really hear it on the Guitar Hero Tracks w/o the guitars. And Yes I do agree it wont be too different if they just Remaster it again, but who knows mabey they'll remix it too??
Over the years Cds have been masterred Hotter & Hotter (loud) & I dont necesarily like that because it seems to be a bit Distorted & Digital recording doesnt sound too good once its Practically Clipped out.
I have the Original BOO & Diary Cds before the 95 Remasters & I prefer those to the 95 ones, dont get me wrong the 95 ones are Great, but I just turn the stereo up a little more & it makes for a ore enjoyable listen,to me.Those ReRecordings are WAY TOO Loud & Recording the Bass & Drums Digital to the exsisting Analog Vox & Guitars & Keyboards was outright Stupid, way to destroy a piece of Music History.
They wouldnt go & replace one of the Beatles, there are SO MANY factors involved w/recording & Magic being put on tape, such as weather & Atmosphere. You can use the same board,Mics & amps ect..ect.. But you'll NEVER be able to Replace what was put on tape in the spring of 1980.I cant believe they even attempted to replace the original tracks.
They are a fun NOVILTY though.
But I just Listened to the 2002 version of Diary (the song) after not hearing that version in years & The Acoustics & everything sound Beautiful until the Bass & Drums/Distorted Guitar come in....OUCH.No Balls just way too bass heavy drums & Tinny Bass uitar, and during thebreak in the middle where the Strings begin, its very very loud in the mix,you can hear alot of little violin parts that are buried in the original mix & rightfully so.Then when the Choir comes in thats too loud in the Mix Too.Oh and if thats not enough How Can we Forget the TERRIBLE DINGY FLAT Sounding Ring that the snare drum has throughout the whole song, its like DUNG,DING,DUNG,UNBELIEVABLE

A classic album dvd would be amazing! I have seen a few of those CA releases (Sex Pistols, Pink Floyd) and they do a great job, although I always want more of those mixes. How about a CD ROM of an album (say BOO or DOAM) where YOU the music fan get to make your own mix with the individual tracks? I figured I'd throw that in since we all do a lot of dreaming, hoping for more Randy...

It wouldn't be a suprise to me if there is some studio out-take material out there as well. I mean some super8 footage when recording Blizzard/Diary.....

I've mentioned before, but back in the early 80's, in a local San Fernando Valley news paper's for sale section, someone was selling a 20 minute video of Randy in the studio recording Over The Mountain. They wanted $100 at the time, so no way I could afford it. I believe there is stuff like that still around. Probably plenty of stuff that has never, nor will ever see the light of day either, sadly.

You mean If cableguy bought this footage we would have something considered given to us by the gods? Was cableguy not working at this period in his life? Does cableguy think of this at least once a day as punishment as to what this Could have been? :) :)

:P I was barely in high school when I saw it, so yeah, no job and $100 may as well have been a million at that point in life. At the time the only place to get Randy stuff was by purchase, usually from the ad sections of magaizines. That's how I got the 3 song Whiskey VHS tape as well as my first copies of QR I & II on cassette. Those were expensive enough @ around $ 35 each if I remember. And yes, it bothers me a little knowing it was out there and I've never seen it mentioned again. I'd even gone through attempting to contact the paper to have them go through old listings but no luck. It was in "The Recycler" paper.

Just think, Darin, if you'd managed to buy that video back in the day and kept it a secret, you could make a mint now!!!

I'd have traded it for a copy of a few audio's no doubt. That was way before I had any of the bootleg shows. Speaking of, I just got back in contact with my buddy Scott from way back in the day, that got me started in on the tape trading 8)

It is always good to catch up with old traders who have been away from it for a while, I found a US 84 ozzy show here that was recorded by a Brit trader when he was on holiday and wasn't traded a few years ago. Imagine what old traders who are out of the loop might have gathering dust in a case in the garage!
I would be interested in knowing what he has of Randy P's because I know Randy P only kept the Randy Rhoads shows and all his other non Randy Ozzy shows were got rid of long ago. I know RP was collecting all Ozzy shows so perhaps your friend might have something nice 8)

I was into this Tape Trading for quite a bit before I got the Internet, and was able to get some really cool stuff over the years Some things that I looked litteraly for years for and it was just Magical getting those things after watching the Mailbox often for weeks at a time.I remember when I was 14 & got my first copy of the Chicago show & my Jaw just hitting the floor seeing Ozzy pick Randy up!!I must have rewound & played it back 25 times that first day back in 93,94.And hearing the guitar seminar for the 1st time & the Cow Palace interview.....Just Beautiful moments....Now ANYBODY can just click on Youtube & in seconds hear/see what I searced High & Low for years & years for.
It sorta takes the Magic & Thrill of the Hunt & the Reward of the Find. The people nowadays just have no idea how great they have it.
