Randy and Mxr part 2!!!!
All right guys, in going with my original post I made earlier, which got a lot of positive feedback, I emailed Mxr dunlop through a buddy of mine who use to work for em'. I got a response! They actually think the idea of a Rhoads signature distortion would be a good idea since Randy has had a resurgence in popularity with Jackson releasing the cocncorde tribute and the Marshall 1959rr. They said they had actually considered the idea years ago, but threw it away! My contact said that he would look into it and push for it. He said the only complication would be getting the Rhoads family to sign for it. All in all, im kinda excited, we could see an Mxr Rhoads signature pedal unveiled next year at winter namm 11'. Please leave comments, give me feedback so that I can relay to my contact!

I know, right. But I think it has something to do with Mrs. Rhoads man. She hasn't always liked to give out stuff with her son's name on it and you know if she said no, I think we would all completely respect her decision. On a side note, the only problems the wiz kids at mxr face is trying to duplicate the sound of a cascading 59' marshall with a d+ running into it. I think they can do it, I was real impressed with the dime distortion and all the evh pedals. Forever Mxr and forever Randy.

So that would be just a regular dist+ but with germanium instead of the silicon transistors they make now?mxr82 wrote:All in all, im kinda excited, we could see an Mxr Rhoads signature pedal unveiled next year at winter namm 11'.
To be honest I think the dist+ reissue available now is one of the most horrible pedals I ever tried, hard to believe Randy would have liked that pedal. But who knows. There must be a real difference between the old 'germanium' version and the 'silicon' one I guess.....

A bit off-topic I guess but anybody tried this one:

This one is great to push old style plexi Marshalls!
Light years better than that crappy dist+. (can't be even compared)
The winner of the rat race is still a rat.

Re: Randy and Mxr part 2!!!!
I have no idea why I wrote DOAM above. I must have responded to the wrong post, originally. I'm not a fan of the distortion plus. While I think/know that Randy achieved an awesome sound through a Peavey in QR, there are better distortion/overdrive pedals out there. I do like the MXR colorization effects like the stereo chorus and stereo flanger, I've owned several distortion plus's (w/LED and without) and they are SO noisy. I guess that is why Randy EQ'ed it. The point I'm trying to make is be original and be true to yourself. If it doesn't fit, don't wear it.
I bought a strat in 1998 and I wasn't used to how close the volume know was to the high E string. I kept hitting the thing (vol knob decreasing/changing volume) while I practiced or in jams. I was telling some friends when this one man stopped me, "Don't tell me you're not good enough to play it because if you had this guitar made you would say, move the volume knob here/ I don't like it here..." His words were so liberating. I went home and re-drilled the volume knob down an inch or two, threw some electrical tape over the old hole and I was good. I was used to Gibson Les Paul's and Flying V's where the volume and tone knobs were out of the way. Whatever works for you.
