well i can't say for sure since i don't share Randy's influence or his thoughts, but i don't think Randy would be a fan of Buckethead. though not a fan, i don't think Randy would dislike him or anything since i don't think that's how Randy was. i just don't think Randy would really like Buckethead that much. if at all really.

just my 2 cents

Romeo where art thou been! I think Randy would have been very intrigued with Buckethead. Being a non-conformist himself, I would think Randy would want to know where the soul and eccentricity of Buckethead comes from. I am surprised that Sharon has not scooped him up by now, to revive her husbands career! Maybe its the KFC hat, and mask, or the unpredictable behavior of Buckethead, that keeps her from doing so, or maybe Buckethead is a very smart cookie and steers clear ? What a wonderfully talented individual he is though! Wonder who he really is ? :fish:

Ozzy auditioned Buckethead, but said he was too weird for him to work on any record. Buckethead has crazy good skills, but he's not my cup of tea.

wow!!!back in the day i used to blow buckethead off cuz of the mask and bucket on his head..i never heard any of his music because of my ignorant bias towards him..but alex i just became an instant fan of this beautiful human bieng listening to his shred ability, but mostly what you posted as to his softer side...jesus this guy(?)is an absolute genius!!!!the whole mystique i bet is for a reason, but im no psychologist so ill leave it at that..romeo and alex thank you for turning me on to a musical genius!!!as for ozzy saying he's too wierd?just imagine what randy felt when he joined ozzy..he still gave ozzy the benefit of the doubt..good influences on a person seem to fade as they grow older i guess..thanks again guys!!!!

He definitely is a multi-faceted artist, with extreme talent unlike many, and a total individual, weird, eccentric, whatever, this fellow was blessed with incredible talent. I remember that Ozzy interviewed him, I think in 2002, or 2003, and Ozzy's last interview regarding Buckethead was in January of 2005. So, what four to seven years ago, Ozz made those statements, maybe he has had a change of heart, who knows. ? I find Bucketheads music, and his odd behavior actually intriguing. Have always wondered what makes him tic, and where all of this exceptional music comes from within him. In actuality, what could be too weird for Ozzy, who has probably lived one of the most odd and peculiar lives. Maybe Ozz and Sharon wanted Buckethead to wear one of their far too out dated, and tacky Medieval costumes, or fangs with blood drooling down the side of his mouth? I suspect Buckethead may be vegetarian, and anti-chicken (reason for KFC Hat) so most likely, fangs and drooling blood was the final line drawn for Buckethead. Whether his behavior is "stick" or not , it would be interesting to find out what drives him, and I believe Randy would have been interested as well. Viva la difference ! :fish:

That's a pretty bold statement. Why not?
well i'm not saying Randy wouldn't respect what Buckethead's doing, i just meant i don't think Randy would be much of a fan of his music. why? because Randy was getting more into classical music anyways, and Randy wasn't much into the flashy speedy stuff that Buckethead does.

Randy did do that flashy speedy stuff that we all love, but i could have sworn i read somewhere that he didn't like to do it.

There was a great article in a Guitar World last year about Buckethead's time with Axl Rose when he was working on Chinese Democracy. He did some strange things. For example, he had a chicken coop built in the studio to record in. One of the guys had a little dog running around, and the dog relieved himself in the coop. Instead of cleaning it up, Buckethead said it "inspired him" or something of the like and he kept the dogshit in there while he was recording! Also during one session, he had a TV hooked up in his coop so he could watch hardcore pornography while he recorded. Strange guy.

Buckethead is a genius.

Many people cant get by the mask and persona, but that is their problem. I got into Bucket a few years ago and have been a supporter since. Multi-facited and multi-dimensional for sure.

Don't believe all the hype and press about his doing wierd stuff. His "act" is planned to get attention and at the same time keep the focus on him making tons of music without being bugged. His musical output is like no other artist today. He puts out several records a year, and manages to play with a lot of respected players. Go to his site and check out his discography. That hardcore porn stuff and dog sh1t stuff is all hype. You dont play with as many great musicians as he has unless you can bring it.

If you get a chance to see him live, do it. You might enjoy the "show" and even get a chance at a toy if you are near the front row.

In an interview with Revolver, Ozzy Osbourne stated that he had offered to have Buckethead play guitar in his band at Ozzfest. Ozzy quickly changed his mind after meeting with him, and realizing that Buckethead would not remove his costume in order to be accepted by Ozzy, said:

"I tried out that Buckethead guy. I met with him and asked him to work with me, but only if he got rid of the fucking bucket. So I came back a bit later, and he's wearing this green fucking Martian's-hat thing! I said, 'Look, just be yourself.' He told me his name was Brian, so I said that's what I'd call him. He says, 'No one calls me Brian except my mother.' So I said, 'Pretend I'm your mum then!' I haven't even got out of the room and I'm already playing fucking mind games with the guy. What happens if one day he's gone and there's a note saying, 'I've been beamed up'? Don't get me wrong, he's a great player. He plays like a motherfucker."

I think Ozzy and Axl worried about being upstaged by a sideman. His talent and image are both intimidating.
I love the fact no one knows who he is, he continues to record lots of music, and really doesn't regard anyone's supposed status of a rock star.
Whenever I put on Blizzard or Diary, what a wonderful, delicate furious beast.... I MISS you, man!

I don't know if I'd go that far. He's a good guitar player, maybe even great if you like his style of playing.

Personally I'd say that I think 'Brian' is a clever guy who found a unique way to garner attention in a world with a lot of great guitar players. Reminds me of KISS in a lot of ways.
