I don't know if this has been mentioned before but its news to me. I found this a few weeks back and i hunted around and noticed that the mentioned recordings didn't get sold at auction (December 2008). They went up with other lots including a Black Sabbath crucifix lighting rig (How bizarre) which i don't think sold or met its reserve. Out of all the items of memorabilia that did sell were a hat belonging to AC/DC's Angus Young and a tambourine used by Bon Scott. This makes me wonder to what is on these tapes and if they are still available. The guy in question was drumming with Ozzy for a short time and i believe that Randy and Bob Daisley played on these demos. This was the time while they auditioned for drummers. I think Barry must of been helping out, but he did do one small gig in a pub with the band. Read on ....

Ozzy rock memorabilia up for auction
A former rock drummer is planning to write a book about his unorthodox life as he today told of his decision to sell off his treasured collection of rock memorabilia.

The avid music fans collection will go under the hammer at auction on Saturday. They include exclusive recordings of legendary star Ozzy Osbourne. Items taken from the personal collection of Barry Spencer Scrannage, a drummer who worked alongside Ozzy after he left Black Sabbath, are among the latest pieces to be offered up for sale.

The items on sale in Stourbridge include the iconic crucifix used for lighting for Sabbath tours in the 1970s.

There are also programmes, posters and photos up for grabs, as well as two exclusive tape recordings.

One of the tapes features recordings of Ozzy and his first wife Thelma made at his Birmingham home in 1979 where Mr Scrannage lived with the veteran rocker. The other features John Bonham.

Mr Scrannage, who moved to Stourbridge more than 20 years ago and used to run the Rock Tavern in Hill Street, Brierley Hill, met the stars through his own musical career which started out in a band with Glenn Tipton, now famous as part of Judas Priest.

The memorabilia will be sold by Fieldings Auctioneers, based in Mill Race Lane, Stourbridge, as part of their Christmas Sale on Saturday.

Mr Scrannage, aged 54, was born in Smethwick but spent a turbulent childhood in and out of care before being sent to a school run by Franciscan Fathers in Dorset. The fathers positively encouraged my interest,” said Mr Scrannage, whose career saw his band Starfighters tour with ACDC. I am very grateful for the opportunities they gave me and I owe them a lot.”

Mr Scrannage has made the heart wrenching decision to part with some of his most treasured memorabilia following his 50th birthday. “I was looking back at my life and it struck me that I should write a book.

“I want to publish the book myself because I want the account to be true and exact and in researching it, I came across all my old photos and recordings.”

Mr Scrannage, who now works as an actor wants to use money from the sale to fund his book.

Stiltz In the Garry Sharpe Young Ozzy book Barry Scrannage 'Spencer is stated as being an early drummer with Randy, Bob and Ozzy. I have just recently read the book again and the name made me do the research to the above remembering the guys name and auctioning those items. He did play a biggish part in the early line up before Lee Kerslake took over.

I just did a quick search over at TK and it was mentioned a couple of months back. But it looks like the tapes are still belonging to the original owner.

Well it looks like these early demo recordings are going under the hammer again. I have checked the original auction house that they first became available from and an auction of rock memorabilia is going ahead on Saturday. Check out this item on ebay for the details.

Barry Spencer Scrannage is auctioning off some of his person collection of Ozzy, Black Sabbath and other weird ass stuff you collect over the years as a now 50 year old heavy metal drummer. “My career started at school in Dorset with a band called “The Shakedowns” and the changing world of the 60’s. I left school and returned to Birmingham, where I was honoured to meet and to befriend the late, great, John Bonham. I started a band with Glenn Tipton; “Merlin” and we were lucky enough to play at the original Cavern in Liverpool. I was part of the formative days of “Light and Sound Design”, who were part of the biggest lighting company in the world and supporting some of the biggest tours. This would lead me to work on the AC/DC “Highway to Hell” tour, to name but a few. I was then lucky enough to support them with my own band “Starfighters” on the “Back in Black” tour. I later lived with Ozzy Osbourne just after he left Black Sabbath, to form “Blizzard of Ozz”, with Randy Rhoads and Bob Daisley. Ozzy; a great “frontman” with a crazy sense of humour and madness; the talented Bob Daisley and the delicate genius of Randy, who tragically left us all too soon. I have played and met many, many more famous musicians in their formative days and have many tales to tell.”

I hope that we get a chance to hear this because of all the early recording of the band forming this one is key!
