Free music lesson, if it's in "A", then find the third of the key. Is it a minor third? (flat) If so....yes it is minor.

Always listen for the third note of the key's scale. If it ain't a 1/2 step lower, it's major, if it is, then there's several minor keys you can choose from.

I believe "I Don't Know" is natural minor.

Well do you know the general major or minor scales?

Basically with a minor key you play the root note, 2 frets up and then 1 fret up from that. So in A minor (natural and harmonic) on the a string the first three frets would be 0, 2 and 3. A B and C. Major has different first three notes, they are every 2nd fret in major so on A string A major first three frets would be 0, 2 and 4. A B and C#. I don't know happens to luckily start with the first 3 notes in A minor (harmonic and natural) scale so it's A minor. Sorry if that's a bit basic.

There's more to it than that like say not just the difference between major and minors first three notes.

the main solo for the song is in g minor though. so you have serveral aptions for messing around here. any thi8ng in a minor pentatonic of giminor pentatonic works great have fun with that stuff. oh dont forget to add your own blues stuff in there and some chromatic stuff too.
