Gary Moore Interview (some talk about Ozzy & Randy too)

Thankyou.
Two things of great interest.
1. Gary said Randy said the Ozzy gig could interupt his studies of Classical Guitar. I wasn't aware he was studying Nylon Guitar 79/80. I knew he had dabbled earlier in his youth but this throws new light! most interviews mention him practising and taking it seriosuly towards the end of his unfortunate exit from Ozzy....hmm.
2. Interesting also about Gary's claim about Mr Crowley 'borrowing' some thematic material from Parisenne Walkways. I am skeptical Randy borrowed it from Gary because of the following.
That chord progression and similar melodies were used things from Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive (1979) to Bill Conti's Rocky fight music! (1976)
Also the progression and similar melody, are an almost cliche in Baroque harmony. Randy as we all know mentioned Pachabel and Vivaldi etc as Baroque music he enjoyed.

Thanks for posting that, I like Gary’s playing. When I was young I can remember been given the Emerald Aisles video and thinking what a great player he was, I wore that tape out.

Me too! I wonder if it has been released on DVD as well? Definitely something to buy!

Yeah i was giving the Emerald Aisle video as a birthday present, i've still got it. Gary Moore 'Live' doing his more raunchier material like White Knuckles,Nuclear Attack, I Can't Wait Until Tomorrow. Absolute Magic i seen him Live a few times back in the early 80's. One gig that comes to mind was the Reading Rock Festival '82 Gary Moore's set was awesome and to add to that he said that the sound on stage was really bad and he still turned out a really great gig.Bernie Torme, Iron Maiden and Blackfoot played the same day... HAPPY DAYS

Was thinking, isn't it possible that Randy himself told Gary about getting inspired by Parisenne Walkways?
Also listen to the very first 3 notes Gary plays in hat song. It's very simular with the first 3 notes of the guitarline right after the keyboard intro in Mr. Crowley.

I suppose anything is possible. I am still a bit skeptical though as those three notes though are only a broken chord of the key of the piece.
So many pieces begin with a broken chord/arpeggio, or end too in that way!
I wasn't joking about the Gloria Gaynor comparison Patrick. Just after the chorus of I Will Survive is so similar when you listen to the interlude before the second solo in Mr Crowley.
I don't know, I guess like with all the things that surround Randy, we will never know.

Yes they fit in a chord, playing those first three notes he starts high and goes down the neck. Same as Randy does in Crowley.

To me (at least to me
) it reminds me a lot of the starting riff in Crowley. But like you said, the man is not here anymore to tell, we can only speculate!

Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant the notes would be written out and sounded as a descending arpeggio of the home key chord.
Like in Mr Crowley-D, A, F then back to D power chord (key of D minor)...
In in Parisienne Walkways-A, F. C and to A minor (Key of A minor)
Ignoring the different keys yes it is identical. I suppose my doubt is because it is such a common thing (using an arpeggio to introduce a melody/theme etc) that using it doesn't sceram out a quote by Randy to me personally.
Only a ouija board can settle this!

i still like to know who Randy's teacher was in the UK, i heard that he had found some one recommended through Toni Iomi (word of mouth) , i found several very good teachers in Spain but there English is whacked...

Surly not though tony lomi, remember that ozzy had just been kicked out of Sabbath and also Randy was not a fan or there music either so would he have sort him out, or Tony sort randy out for a chat.
