Thanks, that was (and is as I favourited it) a great listen.

Regarding the threads title I like also the way Rudy said, in the Off The Rails autobiography, that Randy said that he was aware people wanted to just go out there and "tear it up" but it was their (him and Rudy's) responsibility to equipe them with a musical education and understanding.

my thougts exactly..

I have this friend that always was so anal about the finish on his guitar it was pathetic

he would be trying to give me shit about the back of my guitar being all shreded from studded belts ect... and I would think maybe you should concentrate more on playing worth a shit than worrying about the back of my guitar...

thats another reason I like to have cheap guitars
if it gets dinged or something it's no biggie
and usually the main difference between a super expensive strat and a cheap one is in the setup

I always laugh when you hear about a "vintage" guitar having more "mojo" than a new one, usually the only difference is that the old one is broken in

the term "vintage" is nothing more than a marketing ploy to jack up the price of some old crap that was probably crap right from the start anyway

or worse yet "the relic series" from fender
you know that was concieved by some suit at a desk trying to figure out a way to make a $200 guitar into a $20,000 guitar so he could get that bonus and go on vacation

also I have had my share of students that think you can just pay money and magicly become a guitarist (like a lot of people that take lessons)
or "I need new pickups to sound good" (if the things aren't shorting out thats not the problem)

the sound comes from the way you play and from inside of yourself
"YOU' make it happen not a wad from the wallet or the wave of a magic wand from the instructor

there's a bit of my philosophy about the guitar and playing

it's practice that makes perfect not $$$

I always liked the ted nugent approach to practice
"Practice until you get a guitar welt on your chest and then practice some more"
