Some of these prizes would be nice....
Rock Out With Rudy Sarzo!
To celebrate his new book, Off the Rails: Aboard the Crazy Train in the Blizzard of Ozz, legendary rock bassist Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, Quiet Riot, DIO, Blue Oyster Cult) is launching a Kompoz contest for both musicians and music enthusiasts.
"I had the pleasure of jamming with Randy Rhoads, and now I'm inviting you to join me in honoring his legacy. I'm inviting you to join me in creating a brand new song. I'll play bass. You can play drums, guitar, sing, or whatever you do. Then we'll let the fans decide! Crank up your amps to 11 and lets rock!"
For Musicians:
Create a brand new song with Rudy. He'll play bass, you do the rest. Best new song will be featured on RudySarzo.com and Kompoz, and all collaborators from the top songs will win huge prizes... HUGE! We're talking some totally kick-butt prizes! Top prizes include a Jackson Randy Rhoads guitar, a Peavey Rudy Sarzo signature bass, an M-Audio Pro Tools rig, and tons more.
Create a new project on Kompoz, download Rudy's bass loops from our contest asset library, then pick a few to build a bass line for your new song. Create a song by yourself or work together as a team (everyone on the winning teams is eligible for prizes), then submit your project back here on this page. Your song's bass line must include Rudy's tracks (at least 75% of the bass track must include Rudy) but otherwise have at it!
For Music Fans:
Not a musician? Still want to compete for prizes and help us decide which songs are the coolest? Well here's what you need to do: refer other musicians and fans to Kompoz.com. The member that refers the most new members during the contest period will be entered into the contest winner's circle, and will be eligible for top prizes! There will also be weekly giveaways to active memebers. You must use this link to be eligible.
Prizes:
Jackson Randy Rhoads RR24 Guitar $1,799.99
Peavey Rudy Sarzo Bass, Cirrus (TM) 4 Bubinga $2,089.99
Ampeg Amp (To Be Announced)
Line 6 Pocket Pod $179.99

I know lol, that's why I put "new book" in parentheses.

Having a contest makes it sound like the book isn't selling and Rudy needs a gimmick to boost sales. Since most of us already bought it, it probably won't ever sell too well from here on out.

The only "new" part of the book is some pics that weren't in the 1st one, no?

I like to know as well if the pics are the only addition?
Somebody here who bought the "new book" ?

I was about to buy it a month ago over, but Mike would probably have 5 cows over it, as I already
have the first one. I may have to go the bookstore by myself one day, buy it, and smuggle it in.
Pat, I think the only additions maybe the pics. I'll check into it, tho.

Peace,
So is anyone gonna submit some tracks?
The funny part about these contests is that the winner could be some one from high school that plays guitar like Britney Spears but gets the most votes via his friends., This is what this contests are about, PROMOS.
I am just wondering if all the submitters will end up sounding like "RANDY", lol
Peace and Love,
G

Hello,
I just wanted to address a few things to hopefully answer some questions that have been asked about the book and the contest.
THE BOOK
The book's only changes are that it has been re-edited to correct the many, many typos, bad grammar and the occasional mistake. It has been completely redesigned so that the pictures are throughout the book where they apply to the story rather than in the middle in low resolution. New photos that Ross Halfin took (some at Disney in Florida!) while shooting for Diary of a Madman have been added to the center in glossy and some throughout as well. They were not cheap but we thought they made it better! The cover has been redesigned also and the quality is better than Amazon's "print-on-demand" that Rudy was using.
It's really just a clean up so the entire book lives up to the great story that Rudy wrote. Myself and my friend are the ones that did it for Rudy. We are a small company so this is not our usual thing but we are musicians, we're early 40's so we lived and breathed Randy Rhoads and remember when this story took place and it means a lot to us that Rudy took the time to write it and we wanted to help. I was at the Harrisburg show. I remember reading about Rudy joining the band and though his striped pants were cool!
You are correct, we will never sell tons of these and we will never recoup our money. But we are helping spread the word and it's worth it. Rudy is a fantastic guy, his reputation is stellar and we thought we'd help by redoing his website, cleaning up the book, getting it out there in stores so people without credit cards can get it and doing fun stuff for the music community like the contest.
You can do the math, we have to sell it to retailers for 65% off or more, pay Rudy, pay for the photos, the website, the contest, etc.... I'm sure you get it. He's not really making anything either, but that's not why he wrote it.
THE CONTEST
As far as the contest there are a few things that are confusing. There are several ways to win and only one is by popular choice, that's only fair because there are tons of people on ourstage.com and whoever gets the most votes from people they don't know should win something. That's also why it's called the "people's choice". But the big winner and the largest prize package is based on Rudy's sole judgement. And he wants to hear some killer music... and not disco! He's also going to promote the song so he really wants it to be good.
Also if you are a musician and want to participate but don't have all the instruments you need, or don't write or need someone to mix it or whatever, you can find those people on kompoz.com. That's why we chose that platform, because it allows people all over the world to collaborate. We thought it would be cool to bring together music lovers all over in Randy's name... how would he not love that?
If you are not a musician but a passionate music fan you are still needed to help promote the contest because you probably know great musicians who could get involved and we need you so the judging IS good and we don't get crappy music. For that we have prizes too... and we're getting more as this gets pumped up.
So everyone get involved in some way - OffTheRailsContest.com
That's about it, I hope that clears some stuff up. I'd love to hear from anyone who has questions. Now I'm getting back to working on my Randy licks.
peace, Scott
