I can hear it too
that other guitar part seems to be what Randy plays live,
while the main(louder one) seems to be what the keyboard does.

I actually like the keyboard part better, when played on guitar

any idea why Jake and Zakk chose to play the keyboard part ?!

Maybe because Randy did it in studio? Or, like you, they thought it sunded better? I dunno

Yeah most of Randy's solos are double, triple, sometimes even quad tracked..I don't think any of his solos (with Ozzy, not sure about QR) are single tracked.

Yeah, Randy is known for doubling a lot of his solos but I never noticed it in Mr. Crowley. I guess that's because when I listen to that song I usually listen to the live version.

I think when people say they dislike his tone they often refer to the studio albums. I got into Randy because of Tribute, when I bought Blizzard and Diary afterwards I was a little dissapointed soundwise. However I think his tone on Diary was a bit better than on Blizzard. Soundwise I think Blizzard was poorly produced...... (sorry!)

I definitely prefer Randy's live sound, I think most people do, actually I hardly listen to those studio albums, most of the time I listen to the unedited bootlegs. Randy playing live or in the studio are two totally different things to me.

Just kidding, I think it's a matter of taste. But I have to say when comparing the Tribute tone to the unedited Cleveland bootleg then I prefer the bootleg sound though. Even with Tribute I think Max Norman could have done a better job on Randy's tone as well.

However I know when that Texas soundcheck clip was posted at "Plexi Palace" a lot of those Marshall purists liked his tone as well.

ah well, as far as I'm concerned, his tone is great
I can agree on that it's a little trebly and fuzzy,
but I don't dislike it.

I also have it on DVD, but I haven't watched so much
I have many guitarinstruction DVD's(Star Licks, REH vids etc etc ...)
that I like to watch as well

and a few concert ones too

This is correct. The thing is, you may not hear it because he is just playing the same thing to get a fuller sound. That's how damn good he was...

I don't know about quad tracked but triple tracked for sure. That's how he got the "fat" sound on Blizzard and Diary.

Has anyone seen that documentary on Ozzy and Randy that was produced and shown on Japanese TV a few years ago? John Stix interviewed him and asked RR what his weakness was in guitar playing. RR first answered that it was his sound. RR thought about the question for a few more seconds then said that it was his gf. RR admitted that before his gf, no one was ever able to pull him away from his guitar.
