What if Quiet Riot went to Japan instead of staying in America?
Would Randy still be as popular as he is now? Even more?
Would rock be the same without numbers as Crazy Train, Mr Crowley, Believer...?
Who knows..

I tend to think he wouldn't, his departure from QR was needed to give himself as well as QR the big break. (just my 0,99)

There is a guitar-driven band from the States called The Ventures. They moved to Japan after having a couple hits in the 60's.
If Randy would have gone guitar instrumental he would have had a very huge following in Japan and would have had a ton of melodic guitar lines to offer the World.

Just look at Marty Friedman. He went to japan after his huge success with Megadeth and got tons of critical aclaim there. Im certain that if Rhoads had done some of his instrumental classical stuff it would have been very popular in japan.

Knowing how the spread of musical influence goes, I don't think Randy would have nearly the level of acclaim he has now if he just went to Japan with QR of all bands. First off, QR's material, in my opinion, was not a good example of his talent. Randy's talent shined when he was with Ozzy. In the past few weeks I have really tried desperately to like and listen to QR's material and I just can't: it's really just...not good. The fact that people compared QR the band to VH the band is just insanity. Randy vs. Eddie, sure, but the whole bands and the songs they put out? Yikes. And I don't even really like VH.
So to answer the question, there's no way Picking Up the Pieces or Breaking Up is a Heartache could take the place of Crazy Train and Diary of a Madman.

if quiet riot had gained recognition in japan, i think randy would have outgrown the band anyway. he was larger than the pop format they used. he would have impacted rock in a different way maybe, as long as he stayed away from small aircraft.

what is the deal with QR and Japan?
did they tour Japan or what? and what was the promotion for QR I and II like?

Quiet Riot could only get a record deal in Japan on a Japanese/CBS record label. They have never been to Japan.
