Has Randy ever been featured in Rolling Stone Magazine? I used
to subscribe to it but haven't for awhile~I read somewhere that
there will be a feature called "The 100 Greatest Rock Guitarists"
but not sure if it will be in RS or another magazine..LOL.
I watched a music channel called "Fuse" this past Thursday &
they were doing the 5 Best Guitarists(in their opinion) & Randy
was #4.Can u believe the guitarist from My Chemical Romance
was #1?? What is this world coming to? LOL..
Have an awesome weekend my friends!
Many Hugs,Melissa(Rockermel) 8)

i have a sept 18, 2003 rolling stone issue titled "the 100 greatest guitarists of all time." our boy was #85. of course #1 was jimi hendrix but in-between were marginal guitar players like jack white and neil young. what a crock. these lists just tend to piss me off.

Randy will never rank high in a magazine like Rolling Stone. He was a guitar player and is adored by other guitar players. Rolling Stone is for music fans who don't necessarilly play an instrument but like to read about musicians.

They did a nice write up about him after he died and they do include him in guitar player lists, but he had not yet become a star, so the stargazers never noticed him.

Frankly, I prefer that. I'd rather keep Randy Rhoads a secret amongst us fans rather than let the whole world in on what we know.

i know you're right paul, but when the list is titled "100 greatest guitarists of all time" i expect some level of virtuosity displayed in the line-up. it's not "the 100 greatest stars of all time."
i'm done.

That's true, Frank. When a guitar magazine puts Kurt Cobain above Randy, then there's an issue... most often it's just a popularity contest thing. I remember back in the '8-'s when Hit Parader would do "Best Guitarist" polls and rank Mick Mars above both Randy and Eddie - even Mick Mars would laugh at that. Then you look at the album sales for the same time fram and find that Motley Crue has a new record out and niether Randy or Eddie do, and it starts to make some warped form of sense.

Also, remember that guys like Eric Johnson don't make it too high in those lists either...

Perhaps we should make our own list! I am quiet sure who would make #1 but the other numbers would be interesting. I always find those polls a bit pointless, I (as a drummer) find that Randy sounds amazing but I don't know if he was, but I feel that he was so far ahead that it has taken a long time for others to catch up :)

And thats all I need to know.

Another poll we could try is 'which poll is the most pointless poll?'!

All polls are except your own personal poll.

Ahh, the Rolling Stones magazine, what a joke.

Yeah, ive seen some hilariously funny ones and this is no different. You get these stupid polls that put people at the top.

Yea, Rolling Stone is the worst music magazine of all time and their polls don't amount to JackSh*t!!

My 2 cents!
