I've got a Quiet Riot bootleg somewhere with Kevin commenting between songs that Van Halen were in the audience... So, yeah, I'm sure they watched each other play... I think the 'rivalry' is what we'd call 'fake news' these days. Although I've also got the recording of the Jas Obrecht phone interview where Eddie says Randy learned 'everything' from him... which I'd bet he meant that Randy was honest enough to admit that he learned things from watching Ed - I doubt ed was impressed by Quiet Riot era Randy because EVH was WAY ahead at that point. I'd love to know his impression of Ozzy era Randy.
