Southampton vocals

Has anyone noticed this:

Mr. Crowley EP: vocals have one sound

No Bone Movies from Tribute has a totally different vocal sound. Raw and a bit rough. Works well with the song, but very rough sounding vocals from the EP.

Goodbye to Romance from Tribute. This sounds like an obvious vocal redo with a doubled track.

So why does NBM sound so totally different vocally? Both how the vocals sound as well as how smooth of a night Ozzy was having. Did the EP get a vocal redo (without doubling obviously)? I don't hear any "ghost images" of an original vocal on Crowley or Suicide, (obviously there would be none on YSIA since that was not really live).

Such a shame that this show got scrapped from the box set. Maybe since Jack was looking at it and seemed interested, one day it will get put out. Would be great to hear completely untouched too unlike all the tinkering on both Tribute and Ozzy Live. For now, I'm glad to have what we have above at least. I listen to those 5 tracks all the time.

I will have to check that out. It is a shame that 80 show didn't come out in it entirety but chances are they would have tampered with it...I still wonder what happened to the original flying high again on the new cd.

Flying high again sounds like they put a bunch of fills into the song it doesn't sound natural like any other randy recording I definitely think it was heavily tampered with

I wonder that too. Did they omit it that night? Rudy said in his book they were in a rush that night, I don't remember what is was for. Maybe there was a total train wreck on the song. Maybe Ozzy just really liked those cool changes Randy did, which I never heard him do on another show.

It's actually Montreal for that song. The guitar effects were dried up (echo gone, less chorus), the vocals auto tuned and sound replacer used on the drums, and possibly added bass drums in the pre-chorus, but it's no doubt Montreal. I think it sounds terrible compared to the KBFH mix even though Ozzy's original vocals were rough, Randy's guitar sings on that original KBFH mix which also isn't totally brickwalled like Ozzy Live.

rudy said they were in a rush because they were going to see the Jackson 5 play.

I just noticed, after so many years, something interesting:

The overdubbed double-tracked vocals on GTR on Tribute sound nearly identical to the ones from GTR Irving Meadows 1982 (MTV concert/DVD). There are some very minor differences that indicate they are different, but Ozzy's tone is the exactly the same. It makes me wonder if the Tribute GTR vocals were also done in 1982. If so, was Southampton originally going to be put out then and shelved? The rest of the vocal overdubs on Tribute sound very different from GTR.

Well i can remember seeing the Live Southampton 1980 show as an extra disc with the 30th anniversary release. It was shown on display with the other items in that package. For what ever reasons it was definately going to be put out. I honestly think Bob and Lee had to be paid for this one, but when ever they get mentioned and £$£$£$£$£$$ is mentioned to Miss Money bags she decided against it coming out. So it is definately all there, but will it ever be released...that is the #1 question ?.

If I remember correctly he re-did all the vocals before the show was broadcasted on radio in 1981.

I remember that and what's interesting is that CD Japan very briefly had a track list up in Japanese for the 1980 live Blizzard deluxe bonus disc. The amount of tracks was two tracks short of a normal 1980 show so it's possible that they weren't going to include what was already released on the Live EP (Crowley and Suicide; and of course YSIA since that wasn't part of the show).

I made my own Southampton digital album with the following:
1. You Said It All (from Crazy Babies promo CD)
2. Suicide Solution (from 12")
3. Mr Crowley (from CD EP Back to Ozz)
4. Goodbye To Romance (from Tribute CD, original mastering)
5. No Bkne Movies (from Tribute CD, original mastering)

I have an ICE magazine from the mid 90's that had a release date for a picture CD of the Mr Crowley picture disc on Legacy/Sony, which was obviously and sadly cancelled before the release date.
