sorry for posting so much on this thread but I just remembered the Les Paul Classic Custom which is essentially a Custom but with a Baked Maple Fretboard instead of Ebony. It goes for under 2000 brand new and it has the 57plus pickups which I have played and sound great for the tone that you are after and they make it in a cream colour, which btw in person looks much closer to Randy's color than it does in the images. If you have the budget for that one it would be a great choice. I told a friend about it and he then bought it and I played it a few times and it is really nice

http://maxguitarstore.com/store/index.p ... uctID=8240 this is what it looks like in person. It also is already cream so it will "age" in color quicker. If you wanted it to be more exact then like you said, change the knobs to the amber ones and if you want extreme and probably unnecessary detail you could get a gold toggle and put his name in the pickgaurd

just a tip...you can put lemon oil on the baked maple and it will turn it black...so will look very much like ebony

The board does look much darker in person than in the images although it doesn't look black. The lemon oil is a good idea for sure if you want it more exact looking
