the story I had heard about why the palladium 1st was cut short is that Randy was having technical problems during the first show. In fact, without listening to the boot, didn't the actually lose his guitar tone during FHA or CT?

FHA solo, yes, he totally cuts out at one point.

I can't remember where I heard that it was cut to shorten the set but it isn't played during that show which I think is odd and I tend to agree that tech problems is more likely.
I will have to give those shows another listen because I can't remember hearing Randy having problems with the solo's or the songs at all. These are not recordings i grew up with and listened to time and time again so I feel less in touch with what was going on at the Paladium shows.

Thanks for the info chaps.

Haha I only knew that offhand because I was listening to it very recently, and remember thinking "what the heck happened?", and re-wouned the song and listend to it again a few times. Its probably my favorite solo of his live, so I took notice.

I think its funny you made tjhis comment, since I only know about it from listening to the boot that you were cool enough to make available :)

But isn't great that we are finding more and more footage of Randy?! A full concert would be ace, but what I'd love to hear is something that Randy was working on for the next album. That would be the icing on the top of the cake.

Thanks UR... this forum is the BEST!

Absolutely, new studio tape would top all.

His volume is fading a few times completely in FHA, also in the solo there. Though he played 3 songs after that without much problems. So I can't see the problems he had in FHA being the reason to skip a solo that only lasts 2 minutes. It doesn't make any sense to me :?

Another reason I heard once (long ago) is that because they played two shows that night they decided to shorten the first set a bit by skipping Randy's solo. Tommy still could do his solo in the first set because he was more of a name then than Randy. Still a bit weird reason because the only won maybe 2,5 minutes by doing that. :x
Still, some of those 'spinal tab' decisions were not uncommon I guess. (hence the 'black' taping of Randy's amps during the diary tour..... )
The winner of the rat race is still a rat.
