Re: Favorite Guitar of Randy's?
Polka dot V by far. To me this guitar has always been the Holy Grail.
Don't really understand how a Randy fan couldn't pick it. It represented him. The polka dots = the Polka dots on his vests. The Bow-tie inlays = his bow-tie that he wore on stage with QR. The PDV had Randy's personality and image built into it. Gotta go with that.

the only guitar we saw (until he played there live in feb. '82) was the les paul on the back of Boo.
WE DIDN'T HAVE THE INTERNET THEN.

I think the best looking one is the white Concorde. However, my favorite is the Les Paul, because he loved it so much, and I just feel like it's so iconic. If Delores Rhoads for some reason ever offered me a guitar of Randy's, I'd pick the LP, because to me that guitar was more him than any of the others. I actually think it's ugly! Haha but I'd love to even get a look at it.

you think the les paul or the concorde is ugly? i fell in love w/ the les paul as soon as i saw it live & they photograph well. i bought the 2007 epi limited version because i couldn't find a Gibson one @ the time.
now 3 things...
i'd never buy the $10,000 aged, scratched up tribute just because i don't get that.
i'm not Randy & never will be(after playing for over 30 years) but i love the color even though i do a couple songs really close-like him live but not the same night..
i'd rather have the '74 yellowed 20th anniv. w/ the 12th fret marker.
i'm waiting now on my tp6 gold bridge(b.b.king lucille or artisan)bridge w/ the fine tuners.

I think the LP is ugly. I think Les Pauls in general are beautiful guitars, however the aged yellow of Randy's I think is ugly. If it wasnt Randy's axe, I'd look at it and go "um ... no". But it's still my favorite of his, it's the one I associate most with him, and because of that I love it.blues_n_cues wrote:AceVader wrote:I think the best looking one is the white Concorde. The LES PAUL- Randy LOVED that guitar and played that guitar more than all of them--The Les Paul was probally on every song RR recorded with Ozzy --along with the polka dot V for some leads since it had a Dimarzio pickup which was more hi-output than the LP---The PDV is my second fave..
