First I would like to state that in my first post upon reading, it was a bit Harsh. It really should have been "Are Randy Rhoads recordings too important for MP3? But guys, did you come here to learn anything or just chime in with, "Yeah, dude" or drivel? Don't you have each others' email? This is the 27th anniversary of Randy's death. Randy's recordings are important to me. I try to find something different in every recording. I took the day off and I'm playing the '79 lesson on my stereo. I plan to listen to Randy all day. Calling all Moderators/Administrators:Is there any way to send you a recording for upload for today? On such an occasion.

Any person who heard Randy play live was invited to a feast. All recordings of his live performances, no matter how pure the quality, are leftovers.

My question is this: what tastes better, leftover steak or fresh baloney?

Leftover Randy is much more tasty than most live bands playing in person today. :D

There is a name I haven't seen in a while :)
Nice to see you six strung out!

I think that is a good point. you can still hear what chocie of notes he and the band are playing and reconstruct it in your imagination I suppose.

:D Glad to be back here Matthew....

Just bumped into this recent quote by EVH on this very subject:
Of course, today's technology makes everything so easy, which Van Halen doesn't see as a good thing. "I think it stops people from being creative, because they don't have to," he says. "But also, to me, it lowers the standards. I don't know who exactly is in charge of the MP3 player, the iPod business, who decided that is gonna be the standard sampling rate, because it's nothing compared to a good mastered LP, nothing at all."

He is right, and nobody is doubting it. I think we've all said that if we could, we would upload them as wav/flac however it just really isn't that feasible. Also, LPs happen to have a tiny amount of white noise which adds a certain warmth to them that all CDs and digital recordings don't have. I agree with what Eddie is saying, and i've said previously that any demos that are sent to lets say, record producers or label executives should all be recorded and burnt straight to CD as full wav, to make sure all the sound is captured.

mp3s are every bit as good as listening to a radio and that's where all of us old farts first heard the good stuff back in the day. Ed's a music snob anyway when it comes to 'tone'...

Actually on the gadget show recently they tested vinyl, cd and mp3. The mp3 was 244 (or there abouts) speed, and a higher detail than the normal mp3 :) but the blind folded judges choose mp3 as their favourite sound.

Incidentally Money by Pink Floyd was the song played in all the three formats.
