Randy is playing Bass on the QR3 Demos (Picking Up The Pieces, Breakig Up Is A Heartache) and so on. Does pretty well.

That's what Kevin Dubrow said in the liner notes of the QR Randy Rhoads Years CD.

Based on what he says during this lesson, Randy clearly understood that the bass was not a lead instrument but, rather, a foundation for the guitar to build on.
If there is one thing Randy did NOT do was get boxed in by rules ad tradition. He loved to stretch all that stuff past the brreaking point into new territory. That means he would have used the bass in whichever way suited the song, riff, progression, break, etc in the best way - whether as a foundation or a lead or anything else that happened to work best at that moment. No rules, just right!

Okay, I'll see if I can get this uploaded...

Nope, the files are too large!

I think I got this up on Rapidshare... Here is the link, please let me know if it worked and then someone could upload it to UR?

So if my rapidshare link worked, could someone manage to upload it to this site? I'd love to hear everyone's take on Randy's playing on this. Not to mention the clip where his mom get's on him about being sure to lock up the store!

Yes, they downloaded fine. I have been listening to these every night! Thank you for sharing. Randy is so melodic! You are the student, no? The best tape I ever found was from a bootleg guy I had a trade (transfer to CDR) with, to get the best generation possible of some Ozzy cassette boots, need I say which guitarist or era? :( And after the side feature finished (I think Metallica Ride The Lighting demos) and It comes in distorted but it's the Blizzard band doing Suicide solution but different. The Randy sound. That's it. Does it get better? E.T. footage? :?:

Yep, my ears are glued to this. "I'm going with Kathy," as Randy shreds... The E major to C#m thing is stuck in my head. Some of the best playing is in the Van Halen-esqe Jam. Like in -the-style-of but different...

No, these were on RR.US a year or so ago... now that I'm playing bass they seemed more interesting and I was struck by the guitar playing. When Randy is just blowing stuff off the top of his head, the sound is amazing!

I'm sure Frank could tell us who the student was...
