Different strokes for different folks, I say.
Whenever I hear DLR's voice, I want to slam a fork into my ear. At least Ozzy at one point could sing really well. I remember DLR was one of the factors VH didn't get signed immediately. And look at his solo carrer compared to that of Ozzy's...who's more successful at the end of the day? While record sales don't mean everything , they do mean something.
DLR does provide some of my favorite rock n roll stories. I loved when they were touring with Sabbath, he told an audience 'Lewisham! You're the rock n roll capital of the world!' And then I loved how at his first solo gig, the crowd wasn't giving him the reactoin he wanted, so he just told them they were gonna be filmed for a music video and they went nuts.
And Bruce reminds me too much of Phil Anselmo. Too much talking, not enough singing. We don't care about what pisses you off.
I'd take Rob Halford over Bruce anyday.

I like Ozzy and DLR both very much.
They are both not the greatest singers but perfect for the bands the sang in. I just like their voices. I always see their voices like an instrument that fits the music very well. I wouldn't change anything!
But it's cool people have different tastes, it would be very borring otherwise! :)

I'm rather shocked that people could actually think David Lee Roth and Bruce Dickenson are the greatest frontmen ever... espcially becuase it's just common knowledge that nobody on earth comes close to FREDDIE MERCURY!!!!

DAY-OH.... DAY-OH-OHhhhhhh....

I still think this is one of the greatest moments in live performances... Freddie owned the world at Live Aid 1985.
No other band need to have played... the world would have been satisfied to just watch Freddie all day.

I still get goose bumps... nothing like Queen in all their glory.

This is a tough one because there are so many talented frontment to choose from- but Freddy rocked that ish like it was noBODY's business:) I think DLR may have noticed that, too ;)

Face it, Dave was the guy all frontmen wanted to be between '80 and '84... he had "it", whatever that is. Just like Ed was the guitar player everyone emulated at the time.

Sure, from the distance in time we are looking at it now, Dave wasn't the best singer or performer, but those of us who claim he was the best remember the early '80's when Van Halen ruled the world... those of you who don't remember those days will never understand.

Yah, from 80-84- but where did he learn that from? it's not a natural thing to work a crawd, you'd belocked up welllllll before finding a band that could deal witcherass.

IMHO:)

Well, according to Dave in Crazy from the Heat (the book, not the EP), he used to listen to the radio all night, so I'm guessing a large dose of his schtick came from DJs. He also had a love for Vaudeville, so there's another influence... and his uncle owned the Cafe Wha? in New York's Greenwich Village back in the day, so he got to see a LOT of performers onstage in his formative years. Add a hyperactive personality and you've got the perfect 1980's frontman - which is so much more than the perfect singer.

Remember, the '80's was about the look and the attitude, Dave had the look and Van Halen had the attitude:

Oh nikki sixx, poseur?I put his musical merits and talent up there with brett michaels, jessica simpson, britney spears.
What a fraud when he talks about how his early influences were punk, the sex pistols,ny dolls and all the underground crap that is hip now to talk about.Back in the 80s in magazines he never talked about punk and alternative.Him and brett micheals are 2 chodes id like to punch in the face if i saw them in the street. :P
