I do understand that slot of the fans wanted to hear sabbath songs it Randy hated them, as shown on the bootlegs, he made just about completely different songs out of them, which is very great, but I myself would rathe hear spam live or tonight or Anything really off doam record el paso 82 was Randys best guitar boots in m opinion because everyone wa in chaos, and everyone sounded like shut except for him, forcing him to step it up a notch. U guys are right as well ozzy did know how great randys legend would be he said himself the first time he heard him play it was like god, thought this would make ozzy wan to explore his potential more then the sabbath numbers

Thanks, mike 8)

Although Randy apparently dreaded doing the 3 Sabbath songs that were incorporated into the live shows, imo he should have eaten a slice of humble pie and went along with Ozzy & Sharon's business plan. As some/most people already know, Jet Records required one final album to release Ozzy & Co. from their contractual obligations......Ozzy didn't want to give Jet Records another jem of a studio album such as BOO & DOAM, so it waz agreed to give Jet one last album of "filler", which waz to be the live album of Sabbath material. Although Randy was pretty much dead set against it, ya gotta' admit it waz a very smart idea from a business point of view from Ozzy & Sharon. Rudy waz quoted in McIvor's "Crazy Train" book that it waz a very difficult time, and Randy became extremely moody, depressed, and pretty much shut out. Although we all know Randy waz a perfectionist when it came to his guitar skills and musical ideas, it's such a shame he didn't go along with the idea.....just to make his last days here on earth a bit more pleasurable and happier.

I agree. I know I've always heard he hated them but man he absolutely KILLED those songs! The Kalamazoo 82, Minneapolis 82, Montreal 81 and Providence 81 sabbath songs are so good it's crazy. On randy's end of course. ozz was pretty weak with them.

I doubt Randy hated the Sabbath songs as much as people make it out to be. People make it sound like he EXTREMELY hated playing them, as it was just a horrible thing for him to have to do each night. I doubt Randy really gave that much of a shit about it, he had to smart enough to know he was just a hired gun, Ozzy was the boss, and the Sabbath songs were Ozzy songs. Randy was probably just thinking about getting pussy after the shows as he was playing everything on stage Sabbath or not. He probably would not have chosen to play Sabbath songs if he had a choice, but I really don't think he gave that much of shit about it either way, I don't think it bothered him much at all. It's just playing a song you don't like, it's not a big deal. Randy probably didn't like playing them soley because he didn't write them, and Tony Iommi is just a basic riff maker that noodles with the blues scale, very boring uncreative shit for someone that likes classical styled guitar, but I doubt he seen it as a terrible chore, he was still enjoying having a blast playing music, any music, in front of a crowd, getting paid damn good money and getting a ton of pussy. Randy was very spoiled.

What's this he was a hired gun and should've just gone along with the Osbourne's business plan shit?? He joined a "band" situation that consisted of Ozzy & Bob then himself and Lee afterwards..named "the blizzard of ozz"..JET records got 1 album and 1 in its mixing stage before official contracts were even signed...that's when Lee & Bob got aced and it became the "Ozzy" show...little homework folks.

You said it perfect again! That lineup to this day was known to be perfect. They all fed off each other and it all just flowed perfectly.. If Ozzy had a spine with Sharon he would have told her not to break up this lineup and they would have made hopefully many more awesome albums together. I even heard Lee Kerslake with Eddie Trunk this past winter and he even said it was like magic that they had. Everything they did was like perfect and when one had an idea the others always listened and tried things and didn't just right away go against an idea. They always seemed to work things out the first time around and that is very rare when recording and writing songs/music etc ..... When ya got the chemistry ya capture it and keep it as long as you can.... Not like oh lets screw it all up and get younger musicians in here just because ..... No offense to Rudy and Tommy, I think they are great but I am not sure how they were at writing and recording . I guess with Randy they would have done it for sure but we will never know how it could have been... I even think there could have been a time where Bob and Lee even would have been invited back and all would have been different for the better of course. Damn, here I go rambling..... I can go on and on... LOL!!

My take on Randy's time with the band in general was not a happy time for him. He has never really mentioned how he was feeling during his time in the Blizzard of Ozz. I know from letters and postcards he wrote in 1980 that he was being manipulated by the people around him and he felt under pressure from the Osbournes as they wanted him to sign contracts which would of been very worrying and did he read the 'small print'. He was in a strange country, alone and feeling well out of his comfort zone. I cannot really discuss in detail how he put on an act that he was ok and enjoying himself in the early days of the band. A couple of truths that shine from that time are his requests to have Jodi sent over from the USA. If he was having such a great time would he really need his GF to be with him ??. When Bob and Lee had been replaced who did they get in the band, only his old band mate Rudy Sarzo. I know the O's had been head hunting Tommy for as long as the line up had been together. But they never really knew how good Rudy was at that time. So they had to go on Randy's recommendation or did they get him in to keep him company ??..I read that Sharon was good at putting him in his place on one occasion she told him he would have to cut his guitar solo short as it was too long and BORING.. I'm sure if that comment was going to knock his confidence she would of been doing this to stop him over shadowing Ozzy for that reason only. Remember at the time they didn't have enough songs to do a full set and that is why they ended up playing Sabbath songs. Including a guitar and drum solo so why would she ask him to reduce the length of the solo spot. ??. Randy put his own mark on those Sabbath tracks and if he didn't like playing them he turned them around and gave them a boost. I remember hearing 'Children of the Grave' live it was just incredible and sounded so fresh.

Randy did make the Sabbath songs sound refreshed for sure. I even remember hearing Paranoid on the king biscuit flower hour concert I recorded on cassette off the radio that night ... I do think it was the Cleveland show that is talked about . I have that cassette still somewhere and I will find it soon. As far as Randy not being happy I think yes being out of the US for the first time and then almost being sent back because of passport issues and all ....that must have messed with him a bit. I do remember reading that he would take trips by train out there and go sightseeing as he became more accustomed to the area. That damn Sharon did always seem to think she knew best and she had no damn clue!! The only thing she did right was keep Ozzy alive after Randy passed. But she couldn’t keep that part of Ozzy that died with Randy that’s for sure.

I'm of the belief that with how unhappy he was at the end if he had recorded Speak of the devil he would've been freed up contract wise and probably been very hard pressed to sign another contract with the Osbourne camp...he was already getting his name & talent recognized...he would've been just fine without em...
