Photos from the keyboard tower would be cool indeed!Shockwave wrote:Been waiting for someone to step up and start asking
Nothing yet, honestly though I sent the questions to him a week after I said I did here. Just really busy with school/work and stuff so I didn't want to have to explain again why I had to post pone sending them for another week. Told him to take his time though and no rush. I have no idea how good he is on the qwerty keys, he may hate typing and provide short answers I have a few more questions I wanted ask but forgot somehow I the scramble, hopefully we can have an ongoing dialogue maybe with him once an awhile after this as I included the link to the site here for him to check out.
It would be nice to start something like "rr.tk vs" had and post any interviews like this in a separate sub forum and just lock it down. Maybe copy over the other interviews with rr.tk's permission as well.
I'll share one question though that I thought of while asking another about something on the Diary tour. I asked him about his view up in his tower and how great it must have been. Since he was a photographer of sorts I asked if he ever took pictures while up there. Those would be amazing to see!
Anyway, hopefully he is plugging away on it. I'll keep you guys updated though definitely even if it's just "nothing yet" once a week or so.

Re: Don Airey responded to my inquiry!
Just browsing the some Don related stuff and it looks like he just started a small 2 week stretch of shows on the 11th and ending on the 26th. Not sure how much time he spends on a laptop or any of that while out on the road, or if he even brings one for that matter. Had hoped to have his answers prior to the 19th but I would guess it will be later than the 26th now.
Re: Don Airey responded to my inquiry!
Just sent an email out to him to make sure that he recieved the questions a couple months ago. Possible the word document I attached with the questions last time got flagged as junk mail. Hopefully not!

I am pretty much going to leave it at my last email to him. Asked him to just confirm that he did in fact receive the questions and that their is absolutely no rush in answering them stilll. He is a pretty busy guy though. He still tours a lot and is gone for a few weeks at a time doing shows and then other events in between.
I think he will will respond though at some point. He really seemed interested to do this.

^^^^ Same here, would love to read his responses...
Re: Don Airey responded to my inquiry!
Sorry guys, I missed you all asking about this somehow over the last couple weeks. I noticed the last reply a few days ago and started replying on my phone and never finished.
Anyway..no update. I started typing up an email a few weeks ago and never finished that as well. I think I passed out as it was like 1:00am on a Saturday morning when I was doing it. Probably a good thing lol.
I am going to ask him again though if he had a chance to look them over. I will also look over the questions again just make sure I didn't put anything that would upset him to the point where he wouldn't answer them. I am going to resend him the questions in a different format just in case maybe he has an antivirus or spam filter that blocked the word doc/email from going through to him. Before I do that though I am going to contact him the exact way I did originally, through his website.
I know that when I contacted him originally I told him that some of the stuff could be sensitive, but just don't answer any of it if it is. I also stated that he may have a bunch of stuff such as soundboard recording/photo's etc of the band during his time with them that it would be great if he could share with the fans. After that initial contact is when I replied back saying he would be glad to answer the questions.
I think I said all that in one of the earlier post of mine shortly after making this thread. I won't go back and read it but I remember what brought all this up sort of making me contact Don. I forget who died at that time but it got me thinking about guys like Don, Tommy Aldridge & Pete Mertons (Randy's guitar tech). What I was thinking about is that once these guys have passed on, aka dead. There stories will never have a chance to be told. The Peter Margolis film fucked everything up completely and I mentioned that to Don that during the initial contact. We really wanted to hear his story. As Randy fans there are really only a few guys that we have not heard from in detail about him. To me the most important are Don and Pete, I'm sure most of you would agree with that. Don is, and was a true musician at the time and on the level or above Randy in his own right. Pete was Randy's guitar tech and the guy knows every little detail about Randy's likes, dislikes and equipment setup. Hearing Petes story would be 99% like interviewing Randy at the time(in regards to his sound etc..) Again ....FUCK YOU MARGOLIS!
So this is what I am going to do now...
1. Contact Don through his website again like I did initially and see if he responds. Ill give it about 4 weeks to see if he responds. Ill have to check if he is touring or what not.
2. Whether or not he replies back from tryin to contact him through the website. I will email him an update question list in a different format, probably pdf and give that another 4 weeks.
3. After that I am going to wrap it up and call it a day if we don't heard back. I was hoping the admins here could create a sub forum like RR.TK had with "RR.TK VERSUS" (without such a stupid name though) If that can be done then I suggest that the sub forum be created. The admins then create a thread or even sub forum dedicated to each of these guys. If that gets done then I can post the the questions here and the thread can be locked so no-one could reply but the ones being asked hopefully. I would then send Don a final email with the link to the sub-forum that has the question for him.
Someone start looking for Mertons!!

Re: Don Airey responded to my inquiry!
Sadly I think that if Don really wanted to answer the questions it would have happened by now...
It's not too much to make some time to reply in a timely manner. Even if you're on tour there's a lot of down time during the day.

Re: Don Airey responded to my inquiry!
I wouldn't bother chasing up Pete Mertons i have seen the transcript from the interview he did and to say it is dissapointing. I think the guy was pissed best part of the time. He didn't share anything we didn't already know and at best he wasn't really the best guy for the job. I honestly think Ozzy took pity on the guy and took him under his wing as a drinking buddy. I was hoping that he would be that one guy who would give the docu a lift and bring something new to the table. Plus the guy's memory isn't what it was back then. So i would save your energy on someone that could provide information of a higher standard without having to make shit up and shine very little light on the subject.
