What do you think, would Randy be happy about these books?

Thank you for your perspective, Frank:)
If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliche that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that's his problem. Love and peace are eternal. John Lennon

First, you have to tell Randy he is going to die in a horrible plane crash at 25. Tell him, you only had 2 albums with Ozzy. In 5 years, Ozzy will put out a live album, in 11 years some cleaned up/alt Quiet Riot stuff, at 29 years (finally) the Osbourne's will re-release the albums that they screwed with and the first Ozzy/Randy complete release of After Hours and a couple cool new films! Then in 2012, thirty years after your passing, 2 books will saturate the market! Don't be too embarrassed Randy, putting you always in the spotlight!

Ok then so what happens when all the live footage we know of has been released in every format. Bob & the O's finally kiss and make up and release the grail in an awesome package with a double dvd including the full audio of the 1980 Oxford gig. Every photograph ever taking of RR is put onto another 10 discs. The Pheonix gig is put out with audio and the future of anything else being seen are rarer then rocking horse shit. Yeah Randy will be remembered when his birthday and memorial come around. We'll still see him in magazines and mentioned on blabbermouth etc. Do the fans look forward to materialistic items like guitars, wine, dvd's, books, music tabs, photos etc. If it was all out there in front of us with a price tag on it we'd still want more. His legacy has got to be more then a live show on dvd or a book.

Re: What do you think, would Randy be happy about these book
The only reason I created this thread and the poll was to contemplate that perhaps, just maybe Randy wouldn't be happy with some of the details in the books (possibly what the Rhoads could be objecting to) especially any "kiss and tell" type stuff.
I sincerely doubt that anything Randy recorded or performed would bother him, however I think (but I'm not entirely certain) that Delores may have hinted that Randy wasn't exactly proud of some of the QR material in an interview shortly after his passing. I mean, Randy was a teacher, sought out tutors on the road and also participated in local guitar clinics whenever he could, so obviously he was comfortable sharing that part of himself. But we all have a point at which we want to hold back- I suspect that he would want his relationships to remain private. And maybe the family believes that they are protecting Randy's legacy- and they don't want the authors or contributors to profit from or gain recognition for their part in either project. (I can't blame them, they got screwed trying to put a doc out- and we the fans did, too- by the same people who seriously disrespected some of the artists in the course of interviews- and then shit all over us fans through different monikers on RR boards, etc)
Just wanted to throw that out there. I could very well be wrong but I wanted to express something on behalf of the family- and not that they need me to- but I don't understand why people are turning on them so viciously when we don't know the full story. What if they had a different book in the works that we didn't know about?
I don't think that Randy is the only artist with these issues. I mean wasn't it fairly recent that some of the Beatles catalog became eligible in certain formats after what, 50 years?

Re: What do you think, would Randy be happy about these book
Okay, maybe I have an unhealthy Randy addiction. I'm sure I'm not alone but I'm not necessarily interested in story's about his personal life. I want to hear him playing and see it if possible. I equate it to Close Encounters the movie. We all witnessed this THING. It was the sound only but it stuck in our heads and it changed us. Before the internet we thought we were alone but we are not alone. I am non-apologetic for my love of Randy and the need to want more of THAT. At one point, I thought everything they had was out there. It has been a long time for Randy fans. I am so glad for the O's box-set (super 8, the NM footage and After Hours too), Ron Sobol's book (I emailed him and asked about releasing the full super 8 reels, he said no and I left him alone and thanked him), the Kevin release QR the RR years (I now understand (a sliver) what Kevin DeBrow must of felt losing Randy twice in his life) and tribute (first it was the KBFH on the radio). The bootlegs video/audio were revelations too. They kept me going when I thought all was lost. I hereby give my permission to use my photos, audio, video and any stories, even made up trashy stories about me when I pass because life is short and I'm not going to give a crap when I'm dead. Anyone would be lucky to be remembered for as long as or have so many fans that Randy has and it's only been 30 years. Do you think there were as many Beethoven fans 30 years after his passing? It's just a wild to think about it.

well, we're still talking about him 186years after how passing. That has to count for something?hansolo wrote: Do you think there were as many Beethoven fans 30 years after his passing?

do you think people will talk about Randy after the same time?

I have always really enjoyed Don's work and respected his comments on RR. He's a classy dude.
