Re: Jimi and randy
A review from Heaven: "The recent concert with guitarists Jim Hendrix and Randy Rhoads was absolutely heavenly. Their styles are so different from each other and yet are both saturated with energy and emotion. Jimi has a psychedelic blues-based style and Randy has a classically influenced metal style - this combination compliments one another perfectly. Both are able to play delicately soft, and blisteringly heavy, and every where in between. God selected these two for a reason, and now I understand why."

I think Jimi was too much of a "free spirit" for Randy to grasp

Nah. Jimi, like Randy, had developed their own sounds and styles. Seeing how both were innovators on guitar, my guess is that they'd hit it off and bond over their shared originality, only to come up with something mindblowing.Stiltzkin wrote:I think Jimi was too much of a "free spirit" for Randy to grasp

I was actually going to ask people here a question like this,
Ive never heard Randy mention that he liked or was influenced by Hendrix, does anyone have any info to say otherwise?

Re: Jimi and randy
Hendrix was really the first guy in rock to use Marshall amps, do crazy whammy bar stuff, get lots of distortion and squealing feedback. . .
I'd say Randy definitely was influenced by Hendrix, whether he was aware of it or not!

Jimi was indeed a true innovator,
but as good as Randy was, I'm not sure I can
say the same thing about him...
