Just got my book today from UK Amazon, shipping was very fast. At first glance, the book looks great. Nice pictures and some I have never seen before. Can't wait to read and I will give my impressions once done. I have to say I am a fan of Joel's, and really enjoyed the book he did on Cliff Burton, top notch job.

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts

I'm halfway through it. It's a good solid read. I think it would be excellent for someone who wanted a solid single resource on Randy as opposed to wading through numerous articles over the years (as I have lol). I very much enjoyed the analysis of the two Ozzy records and Randy's performance on the individual tracks. I like getting another critic/musician's take if they enjoy the same artist and hearing why they do.

I was getting a little disappointed by how Amazon has been handling this book. I ordered from Music Dispatch and it shipped immediately! I don't know what's going on with Amazon lately. Their service has really gone down hill over the past years.

don't blame Amazon, it's all about distribution. How can Amazon sell anything that isn't in stock? I ordered my copy from Amazon UK and got it two days later. I have never had an issue dealing with Amazon as long as the product is in stock, and the few times they didn't have something or it was on back order, I was able to cancel my order and place it somewhere else. Also, they never charge your credit card until the item ships. They have some of the best customer service in the world. They aren't going downhill at all but getting stronger.Silver Rhoads wrote:I was getting a little disappointed by how Amazon has been handling this book. I finished reading the book yesterday, a good solid read! I could live without the comments in legacy chapter by random contemporary guitarists influenced by RR but that's just me.
But Peter Margolis is writing a book based on his interviews during the film making? Is the doc history?

Thanks for the reviews chaps, appreciated.
Not sure about the doc's status but I'm sure his book will be killer.

I really enjoyed this book, Joel. Though it took a while for it to happen, there is finally a book that tells Randy's story.
For twenty nine years, fans have had to read condensed versions in magazines, as well as portions of other people's books, now all of that material is collected in one well-researched volume, along with some new and refreshing perspectives.
It's a good blend of both his personal and professional lives, as well as the legacy he's left behind through his music, which was the focus of Randy's life, that you in turn made that the focus of this book.
Instead of painting him as some sort of demigod, we read of a man who took a lifelong passion and obvious talent and turned it into a profession that would continue to inspire and influence people long after his passing.
This is a long-awaited and very welcome addition to my library, and I thank you, Joel for your hard work and a truly fine job.
