The Divid
I have been noticing... Folks that did not buy the box have spent the last couple of days doing nothing but bitching about how its not worth $150 and the footage sucks. Folks that did buy the box set seem happy with it and without regret. Folks that didn't buy it wanna claim that those that did buy it didn't really like the footage either but hate to admit getting burned.
Im going to go ahead and let those people know they are wrong!! I loved the footage. it doesn't focus on Randy. I didn't expect it to. Its from 1981 8MM. I didn't expect HD quality. Ozzy is the star (Randy's words). The NYC footage cuts out. We knew that in advnace. The NYC footage does not show Rudy any more than it does Randy. The NYC show.. even though it cuts out, I feel like i finally got to see a full length Ozzy Randy Rhoads concert. The New Mexico stuff we didn't even know they had. So... can't bitch about that being over hyped.
If you don't enjoy it... thats fine. I wish you did. I do enjoy it. And I don't regret for one second buying it. I think 90% of those who also bought it will agree with me.

Re: The Divid
Im glad you enjoy the footage, and its up to YOU to decide your opinion on it. Doesn't matter what me or anyone else thinks. I don't hate the footage.. I just don't feel it was worth the money that was charged.. If the DVD came out tomorrow at a normal DVD price tag I would for sure buy it. One thing you are mistaken about though, I did not expect HD quality footage. I knew that at the end of the day that the 8mm stuff was exactly that, 8mm. However, I didn't know that it was only in 3 min segments, and I had no idea that Randy was seen very little in any of the footage. Yes, Ozzy was the star, but any normal person videoing a show at least try to focus on other band members during certain parts, especially their solos. I haven't seen the 8mm footage. Only the small parts they showed in the documentary and the little clip they showed of Ozz watching it. It all has value. I want it. But as ive said, just not at their price tag..
I refuse to be held hostage simply because Im a Randy fan. I refuse to defend the Osbournes. Zakk Wylde and everyone else gloated about how this footage was the holy grail. Sorry, but no, it isn't. Just because its Randy and just because we have very little footage of him it doesn't make this footage go from subpar to great. Although its is my opinion, I feel that I am being very realistic. I knew something was up when the Osbournes barely released any clips of the footage.. Had they told the whole truth, many less copies would have been sold. If it was great footage they would have released clips every other week. Heck, they released a whole song from the live cd, and they released the Goodbye to Romance acoustic version. Why? Because both are great and of great quality. They knew it would drive sales. They didn't release more footage because they knew it would not hold up, and it would not drive sales. If they felt the footage was truly great, then why didn't they release more peaks? Think about it.
I realize that beggars can't be choosers. I will always be grateful for anything we get of Randy. But again, I won't be handcuffed to a boxset. I won't be forced to spend the money. I still believe there is more footage of Randy out there. I believe there is some really good quality stuff out there. Hopefully we all see it sometime in our lifetimes.

Re: The Divid
Do you ever get the feeling that we've been cheated ? All those trailers and teasers that got posted up and all the theories of how much footage we would see etc. It was all hype and alot of us got sucked into the O$bourne's promo plan. I knew all along that the footage would be poor quality and the Diary footage would be limited to either a small clip or a couple of songs. Its value was far too much and when you break the costs down that doesn't matter. The RR fan has paid for the footage, not the vinyl or the poster or the package. I bet a good majority of the fans don't even have a record player. But everyone is entitled to an opinion and i know i don't think the box set is worthy of my money. I love collecting Rock memorabilia and i've spent ££££$$$$$$ on my collection. I just think we are a little crazy with our cash at times. Especially when the product has a RR tag on it.
Re: The Divid
Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel either. I was putting off ordering this until I heard about what it was like and could get it in a store. I also don't really want the vinyl, cross, or the CD's for that matter (I still have the original CD pressings from the early 90's which are in good shape). The only thing I want is the video footage and I just can't justify spending $150 for it... it is cool though for sure (watched the stuff on youtube a few times now haha). I would like to see more of Randy of course but at least you can hear the audio.
I dunno though... $150?! That is pretty steep for a bunch of stuff I don't want that will take up space in my house just so I can see some raw video footage. I'm glad they put it out, but I think once again, the ball was dropped.

I think with all the threads about it one thing is really obvious......there is a large group of people who have NO IDEA what life was like before the internet and the digital medium. They just can't seem to grasp how different everything was in the late 70's early 80's.axeman_12656 wrote:I have been noticing... I don't have the box....I think I will get it shortly, I watched OTM on you tube and was blown away seeing randy on stage with the cool outfit and the V....even though you don't see him in your face, it didn't take anything away from my enjoyment..
As for the hating threads, just ignore them like most people seem to be...i'm sure the 5 guys that are posting in them will get bored soon or who knows they might even get a room

Re: The Divid
All I have to say is that I am pretty shocked at how many people actually say they are disappointed. How many times have we read on both forums that fans were praying for new, never-before-seen footage, regardless if it's cut or not? How many people have said they would pay and arm and a leg for any footage?
Now something's been released and it's not worth the price tag? Sure it's expensive, but after all, look what you do get and what most people did want. New footage of two shows (regardless if they're cut), a hard cover, high quality book, the band members restored with a new RR solo, a remix/isolated song and isolated tracks on the DVD. The book alone would cost at least $60.00 in a book store. Hard cover books filled with only photos are expensive to make. It's still not worth it?
I'm not forcing anyone to buy it. I bought it and I'm very happy. It has plenty of Randy in it. People are spending way too much time complaining about what they DON'T want and that the box isn't not worth it. Keep convincing yourselves that. I have a feeling, the more people complain about the high price tag and what they don't like, the less we'll see things released in the future ... if that ever happens. If there is something else that people were expecting, contact Sony directly and ask them. Maybe you'll get an answer. Cheers.

Re: The Divid
The minute I watched the new trailer, I thought it consisted of the best footage they had. I was totally right. The close-up of the PDV from the Diary tour (New Mexico)...it was me who brought it up that usually trailer consist of the best footage, and nowhere in that trailer was there any great footage of Randy.
I was right.
Trailers always have the best footage. In fact, why would a trailer ever NOT have the best footage? It doesn't make sense. Why UNDERSELL your product? If the Osbournes had KILLER footage of Randy, they would have MOST DEFINITELY splattered it all over the DVD trailer. But they didn't.
I'm really scared to think that there isn't anymore footage of Randy out there, and if new footage surfaces, my gut tells me it will most likely be a lot of Rudy and Ozzy footage. Just think, out of a handful of video we've seen, it's probably 50% Ozzy, 30% Rudy, and %20 Randy.
So, while NEW footage MAY POSSIBLY exist, it probably won't exclusively be Randy.

Re: The Divid
Believe me, I have no problem at all with new Randy footage surfacing, but what I DO have a problem with is the Osbourne's marketing the product to be something it isn't.
I understand this is an Ozzy product and not a Randy product, but for $150 I don't think it represents Ozzy very well either.
They should have charged $75 for the LP's, cd's, and book. And then they should have released a $20 DVD of concert footage. The concert footage should have been it's own trailer. That way, people could know what they are expecting.
The Osbournes kinda pulled a fast one here...

Its not a "hating" thread simply because someone doesn't share your opinion of the footage. You are right. Things were different in the 70s and 80s. Regardless, this footage does not compare to some of the quality video I own and have seen from that era. If I could see randy in the NM footage then maybe id be blown away like you are. I didn't expect to have footage with a camera focused on Randy the whole time. Honestly, I wouldn't even want that. Id like a normal concert video. You know, one where you get to see all the band members on screen for equal amounts of time. I too was happy to see the footage. And I WILL buy it if its ever released as a stand alone DVD. But Im also happy that I only bought the CDs and didn't spend the money for the box. How does that make me a hater??
As far as the value of the box, sorry, but I don't see it being worth $150 bucks. You have 2 cds that cost you 30 bucks for both. A DVD that would be $20 bucks. The cross pendant is worthless and probably cost the Osbournes pennys to have made. Not sure what albums go for. But how many people have a record player? I know you can pick the original albums for $5 bucks all day long. The book probably would be $60 bucks in the store. And it wouldn't sell. It would end up at Big Lots and Sams Club by Christmas for $9.99. Im sorry if you guys feel insulted that I don't share your view. Im glad that you guys are enjoying the box set. Im enjoying the hell out of my CDs. Don't take it so personally. There are lots of Randy fans that would pay any amount of money for anything new. And thats perfectly fine.. I am not one of those fans. I honestly feel mislead by the Osbourne about the footage. But again, thats only my opinion. Im not the only one though. The Osbournes, Bob Daisley, and nearly everyone are only concerned about how much money they can make off of Randy. Sorry, but thats the truth.

Re: The Divid
I'm a motherf^¢king hardcore Randy Rhoads fan! I'm damn glad I bought the box set. Not even an option not to buy it. The biggest deal was that those albums are now restored with Bob/Lee intact and beautifully remastered (not destroyed like a lot of today's squashed mastering). A great new live CD along with this great (but not perfect) new footage, and a cool picture book too.
This is probably the last big product to celebrate my favorite guitarist (unless / until the Dakota doc comes out). I'm damn glad this box set was released. I gave $haron my money. $he can go get another facelift for all I care. $he gave us back those two albums in their original form, that's what really matters most IMNSHO.
People on the internet have the luxury of picking everything apart to pieces. Frankly, it gets old on these forums. Don't like it, don't buy it. Go watch it on Youtube for free (with all of the other freeloaders in the world).
Me, I get to cherish my box set with the rest of my RR memorabilia. There won't be too more times that RR is in this big of a spotlight again.

vinyl LP $41.95 x 2 =$83.90
CD's $25.99 x 2 = $51.98
photo book (about) $49.95
cross (what) $15
poster $10
total $210.83nz...$171.30us
so technically its cheap without the DVD
to say the osbournes are making as much money off of randy's name is BS frankly....in 29years since his death what have the released in is name??? 1 live album and 1 boxset that is only a nod to him....don't think they will be retiring of those sales
the boxset is probably more attractive to the ozzy osbourne fans than to randy rhoads fans...the additional footage outside of the doco is purely bonus material. I do agree I would love to see the DVD released on its own because I don't need the rest of the stuff, but it ain't gonna happen which is a shame

They didn't have the footage over the past 29 years! They saw an opportunity and they took it and ran with it. All while misleading the fans about the quality of the footage. As far as your prices, maybe in NZ dollars.. I paid 30 dollars for BOTH cds here in America. Regardless of how good or bad the footage is, you are one of the only people defending the price of box set. And I GUARANTEE you that the DVD will be released on its own.

Re: The Divid
Well, I'm not insulted by anything, I'm just giving my two cents as well. I have to disagree with the book not selling on its own. Look how many crappy and some cool magazines with Randy it that have sold plenty over the years. This book has only large, high quality photos, no bullshit stories. No text at all, which is I love. Sure many have been seen many of the photos before, but not at this size and quality. How rare is it to have a hard cover photo book of Randy? Even the Heavy Metal book was soft cover and didn't have as much Randy as this book. I'm not plugging the hell out of it either. I just think it's cool.Remedylane wrote:

I see many other people (not mentioning names) making more money off of Randy's name than the Ozzy organization. I don't think it was misleading. Everyone knew about the quality. It's old footage from the '80s. It's not Ozzy's fault that the cameraman in New Mexico was green as hell.

Re: The Divid
i think no matter what both sides feel about the footage, its a good thing we got to see it...hopefully it will keep randy's name alive and continue to inspire people all over the world...i do hope there is more out there on him....
