@Romeorose
All Peter has to do is set up the interviews, film it, and edit it, big fuckin deal. A monkey could do that.
I remember kelly saying he had some basic film making skills, i'm sure he can back me up on the fact that you have no idea what you are talking about here.
Go make a film, try it. It's not like Peter can throw money at people and they make something for him, it is incredibly hard to make a good documentary.
A documentary isn't good because of the footage it contains, but how that footage is portrayed. Go watch King of Kong, half of it's bs, but it was filmed so well, a decent story, Good vs Evil, came from it and it went on to become very successful because of this. If the guy filmed the 100% true story, it wouldn't be half as good.
You can't just point a camera and shoot, and you can't just trim a few video clips and put them together. Spend a day in an editing suite on a reasonably sized film production, you will probably break down. It requires a lot of strength just to edit a film, it is probably one of the most stressful things about film making.
And on top of all that, Peter has to worry about stepping on toe's, this isn't some nobody that no one cares about, this is Randy Rhoads. It's not like he can go around and disrepect everyone and everything, although he is bound to, and sounds like he has, upset a few people.
I'm just laughing at you romeorose, just imagining you running a film production. You wouldn't last a day.
Peter deserves no credit for nothing.
Sure maybe another director could've made the film, could be better, could be worse. But it's not like if the Studio stuck a couple of hundred grand or whatever the budget was, in the hands of someone on this forum they could do what Peter has done in the same amount of time.
And about the whole thing of the film being delayed/taking so long:
This is how it works in Hollywood:
1: Studio 'invests' money in to a production
2: they expect to see returns in either cash or publicity
3: Peter has to convince them he can do this, so they will trust him with their money.
4: to make money from the film, he needs publicity so people will be aware and watch it, one of the best, and cheapest, ways of doing this is entering it in a decent Film Festival (Sundance).
5: If it is recieved well, people hear good things about it, go watch it and earn Peter money, which goes to him, people who worked on the film and most importantly, the Studio.
6: The studio has it's invested money back, if the film is recieved well, they have good publicity, meaning they get more money, expand as a business and get richer and richer.
That's what they care about, the studio wont really care that much about Randy Rhoads as much as we do, as long as the film is good and makes them the money.
If Peter made this film in a year and a half, it would be a lot worse than it will be, it probably wouldn't make the money and Dakota pictures would lose their invested money. This is not what they want, so for Peter to make the money, he needs a good film. Good flms take time. 3 years even.
Get it?
I want to see this as much as you, but you have to understand, Peter doesn't just get handed money willy-nilly.
