If your going to one of the gigs what have now been tagged as 'Ozzy & Friends'. This was the original Black Sabbath gigs before Bill Ward pulled out and Tony had falling ill to cancer. This is what the setlist has been and it mentions who's been on stage for the mentioned songs. A few surprises, but not alot of thought has been put into the band members. If you don't want to know, don't look at the pic below ok. Teaser

All these old guys need to hang it up... I'd be VERY disappointed if I had planned to see Sabbath and got this... I hate the fact that so many bands that inspired me are now nostalgia acts. Probably why I like Rush, they are still producing new music and not relying on their 'greatest hits'

Hold on, what!?

I did see a video called Ozzy and friends recently, (didn't actually bother watching it) but are you saying... this is the Black Sabbath tour?

Ozzy band, plus a bit of Geezer and Zakk? I think Slash was in the video...

It's kind of nice to see fire in the sky and killer of giants in an ozzy setlist, but what the heck. Sabbath tour turns into... some kind of charity gig?

Sabbath had to cancel the tour due to Tony Iommi's ongoing Cancer treatment. Ozzy is filling in the dates but spicing it up by adding Geezer, Zakk and Slash to the set. I think its a great idea and much better than a No Show!!

True enough, I suppose. And as I said it is nice to see some of those songs surface on the setlist.

It just seems a little weird to me. I'm not really into Ozzy's new band members and switching people on and off set like a yo-yo, just seems kind of odd to me. Like instead of a performance from a band you are going to see a bunch of people jam?

If they dug out more songs we haven't heard in years and arranged it for two or three guitars (like RR intended) that would get me excited (yes I'm thinking Gus, Zakk and Slash ripping through DiaryOAMM with an epic wall of sound  )! Spiral Architect etc. springs to mind, could sound epic with the benefit of more guitars on stage, acoustic and electric. Maybe throw in a Black Label song, or something off of Ozzy's cover album. Slash and Zakk bluesing up rocky mountain way! A Zakk and Ozzy duet (I'm serious  ). Re-arrange an Ozzy classic? Tour under a new band name? One tour only! Tease the crowd; have Zakk open the show singing Over the mountain (transposed to a different key probably), then bring out Ozzy; wouldn't everyone shit a brick to see Over the mountain live and build some anticipation for the old gent to come out!

It just seems they could make it more of an experience, like you are going to see something once in a lifetime. Why play a random concoction of Ozzy and Black Sabbath material and wheel people on and off stage at intervals. Why look at it like a bunch of replacements. Put them all out front and do something amazing! It just seems like an opportunity missed. I know they probably had short notice to do all of this, but we are talking about some real talented guys! Instead it's Ozzy and friends; no offence intended, it's just not very rock and roll :(

On the plus side, from what I read in another thread they have been performing brilliantly and of course a show is better than no show! It just seems a little conceited, it doesn't have to be second best and it shouldn't be.

What I will really hope for now is that Tony gets well, Bill sorts things out, we get a cracking album and then... Sabb's do one final tour! 8) 8) 8)

P.S Just to sort this out; what name are they touring under? And, is this lineup/show a replacement for all dates?

Well the backstage pass i seen had quote "Ozzy & friends" printed on it. I just think it would of been better to stick to an all Sabbath set. That's what the ticket buyers wanted and instead you get a mixed mash of performers chucking out stuff that has been heard before. I honestly think Ozzy should of stuck to his Sabbath set that he did in Birmingham UK. He could of getting Tommy Clufetos on drums Geezer on bass and Zakk & Gus could of traded off on the songs.

Some good ideas there lads, but I honestly believe if they'd gone out and done just Sabbath songs Ozzy would've got crucified big time. "Fucking 'ell, he thinks his solo band is Black Sabbath now, who does he think he is" Dont get me wrong, I wish he'd play some different songs for a change, but if he did the same set as Birmingham I think it would dilute much of the anticipation/exitement for next years hopefully Sabbath tour (UK? Ha, dont get us started on that)
Went to Download the other week. Great weekend, but frigging wet, especially camping, it was the first time at a festival were I've thought I'm getting too old for this shit, haha. Favr bands were The Prodigy, Halestorm, Shinedown, Megadeth, Corey Tayor, Metallica, Soundgarden and obviously Sabbath. Sabbath's set was shorter than the Brum gig though, gutted no Wheels of Confusion, but great gig. Fantatsic start with the song Black Sabbath, I believe first time theyve opened a show with that. Ozzy sounded great on some songs, but struggled on some, like Under the Sun and Dirty Women. Went down a storm though, a lot of peoples fave band of the weekend.
