Zakk the overplayer

This is an example of why I am not a big Zakk Wylde fan. In my opinion, he overplays (uses too many notes) rather than letting the music speak.
Compare
this version by Jimi Hendrix... in my opinion, Hendrix has
feel and
emotion in his version, where Zakk has lots of notes and technique.
Zakk is a talented player, I just don;t care for his style.

Yeah, that version has too many notes. The version on the Budokan-DVD is better, more like the original...

You are all watching the 'wrong' clips....... this is the Zakk:
Zakk guitarsolo !

Dutch, that is Zakk at his shredding best, but that's to be expected in a "spotlight solo"...
meh, I
do love southern rock and those clips
do show Zakk to be a capable player of that genre. He did start of both clips with his typical lightning fast licks, though. (just messing with you)
I completely understand that a lot of folks like Zakk's playing and I understand why, I would just love to see him break the stereotype and get away from the "shred" more often.
Check out Jeff Beck
shredding - keep in mind that he doesn't use a pick - and
slowing it down
And for
feel here's Johnny Winter.

That was great! I think Gilmour's solo in
Another Brick In The Wall (Part Two) is the greatest solo in a song, ever. It is absolutely perfect.

I know, I wanted to show you that he is overplaying very good there!

Maybe I'm wrong but before starting those fast lines I see him walking towards his amp to grab a pick. Look at the movement of his right hand when playing these fast lines, he is using a pick there and is tremelopicking.
btw. anybody heard "Jeff Becks Guitarshop" from 1989, incredible stuff on that!

I never said he
can't slow down, I simply said I don't care for his style because
most of the time he chooses
not to slow down.
Listen to
Goodbye to Romance, Randy plays some quick stuff in that, but overall it is slow enough to fit the song.

Based on that recommendation I'll see if I can get my hands on a copy.

Okay, so I put Live and Loud in the mini-van's CD player yesterday and turned it up to refresh my memory of Zakk w/Ozzy. I must admit that I do like a lot of his Ozzy material and his rythm work is excellent. So I'll revize my comments to say that I don't care for most of his BLS material.

To each his own I always say. In my opinion, Zakk is WAY better than Hendrix and his version of the Star Spangled Banner is way better too. As I said earlier, to each his own. Zakk is an amazing player and a very nice guy.
