Rock song written about Randy

Post by TWAPILOT »

This is a song written by an airline pilot who used to be a guitar player in an 80's metal band and is a huge Randy Rhoads fan. It is semi-autobiographical but the second verse is all about Randy. The "Break" is constructed as an actual clearance that a pilot would receive prior to takeoff constructed in such a way that all the instructions are Randy Rhoads facts. The singing is not the greatest but it's something different and meant as a tribute.

ROCK “N” ROLL PILOT

Verse 1

Kick the tires, light the fires now I’m off and on my way
To different lands on foreign sands although my mind is far away
Back to the time when I was 9 or so, guitar thrust in my hands
And from the day when I first played my life has been just one big band

Play me sweetly, panned the siren to the little child, she said
Stroke me gently, there’s magic inside

Chorus:

Rock ‘n’ roll pilot soaring into the night
Climbing to a smooth altitude so you can sleep tight
I’m flying heavy metal, kiss the speed of sound
Til I’m cleared to descend earthbound

Verse 2

Few saw live, can’t you see that he was born to play
Twenty-five, a change of seasons on a winter’s day
Live forever, the soul and spirit onward fly
Forget never, the music won’t die

Chorus:

Break:

Controller: Thunderbird twelve zero six (1206), you are cleared to the Sierra Alpha Tango Oscar (SATO) airport via flight planned route, after takeoff fly the Santa Monica 6 departure, St. John’s transition, climb and maintain flight level two-five zero (25 thousand feet), departure frequency one one niner eight two (1982), sqwalk one niner five six (1956), read back…

Pilot: Thunderbird twelve zero six, cleared Obera (this is an airport in Argentina with the identifier SATO), via flight planned route, Santa Monica 6, St. John’s transition, climb flight level two-five zero, departure one one niner eight two (1982), sqwalk one niner five six (1956)

Controller: Thunderbird twelve zero six read back correct, contact ground for taxi, thanks Randy

(If you notice, in the background during the whole break, I’m singing, “So long Randy” and the last time when the sound of the jet taking off occurs, I sing, “Rest in Peace”

Chorus:

END
On an adventure of faith...
