for amps: stock Marshall JCM800's

the amps were cranked because Jake likes feedback.
he tightened up the low end by using an old
BOSS OD-1(the japanese one) with level on full
and drive on nothing :D

Not unimportant, he uses EVM12L speakers instead of celestions.

Yeah, both jake and Zakk used EV speakers :)

Speaking of speakers ...
I'm trying to find those Altec 417 8H speakers
Randy used in his Marshall cabs to include in my
custom cab(whether it's 2x12 or 4x12) ;)

This is a quote I saved from over there in the past, maybe helpful for you:
Iconic Manufacturing Co. is selling brand new speakers (the 917-8A's) that are acoustically and aesthetically identical (they sound and look the same) to the old Altec 417-8H that Randy used. Using the original tooling and former Altec employees to build them, they are the same except they are made with Ferrite magnets.
Aside from finding the Altecs used or re-coned, this is the closest you'll get.
Btw: maybe the EVM12L will be the best subsitute if you want very clean powerful speakers? Those speakers came on the market in '83, maybe Randy would have used those later on as well. This speaker was used by Gary Moore as well for his later blues stuff. They seem to be great for high-gain sounds to keep clarity at extreme volume levels.

I am testing one single EVM12L (BLS) at the moment and I'm very impressed. This is an uprgraded EVM12L speaker, 300watt with a massive low end response. One single speaker gave me the feeling like playing with a whole 4x12 cab! It just pumps!
But I wonder how the EVM12L 'vintage' (200watt) sounds compared with the EVM12L (BLS) ?
