I enjoyed the chatroom when I was at work. It made my day go by faster, and actually had intelligent conversations.
I do not think that it would take away from the threads. If anything, it would add to it.
Just my opinion.

For people with second thoughts about a chatroom here, we had a poll for this: Chat room poll
People who are against a chatroom can still vote there. So far it seems most people want a chatroom here......
sure, we'll set up a chatroom on this new server.
we'll even upgrade to phpBB3 forum software,
but what are you gonna do when there's no more
new threads in the forum and people only come in to chat ?
Well I don't think that will happen.
Hence there is already a pm tool either, does that take away threads from the board? I don't think so, because it's private stuff that wouldn't end on this board anyway. Just my 0,99.....

i don't know if you got my point there.
is it really worth paying for a new server and setting up
new forum software if all that's active is a chat ?

what about the PM tool ? it's short for Private Message
so it's bound not to add to the forum.

Well maybe the chatroom is just one of the new benifits of the forum software? But I think Joe can answer this better than me.
